As you are no doubt aware, the
2012 - 2013 NHL trade deadline is this Wednesday, April 3rd at 3 pm EST. As an avid follower of the Dallas Stars and a dedicated fan to the game of hockey, I sincerely wish you the best of luck in managing this team in and through this highly monumental and vitally important event.
As an avid follower of this team and as a dedicated fan to this sport, I would formally request to add my recommendations to your palate regarding this deadline.
First, I humbly request you trade Derek Roy for whatever value you deem adequate. This team can ill afford to lose such a precious asset to the tyranny of the unrestricted free agent market. The return on such should help bolster our prospect pool and provide a certain level of satisfaction for our fans and, dare I say, a strong sense of hope for the direction of this franchise.
Second, it would be my recommendation that you not trade Stephane Robidas nor Jaromir Jagr. Both veterans fill a need on this team, managing the youth movement and instilling good working and training habits upon the youngsters. To let these gentlemen go would be akin to having a kite without a string. Ground this team in solid fundamentals and a strong work ethic and success will be not so much earned as it will be nurtured and grown.
Finally, I advise you not to extend Glen Gulutzan's contract in this off season. While he is an exceptional coach with tremendous potential, he does not fit the bill for this young and budding team you have assembled. To this point, I have seen little from his body of work to convince me otherwise. Guidance through leadership should be seen at all levels and a sense of accountability should be established and maintained.
As your track record in trade deadline deals has been sporadic at best, I implore you to heed my words and act on them with vim, vigor and vitality.
Dedicated Stars Fan
