What Happens When Ray Whitney Comes Back?

The Stars seem to have found depth on the wings in recent weeks. With the play of Antoine Roussel and the addition of Erik Cole, the Stars are not only are getting production from their top lines, but are gritty at the same time.

My question today is what happens when Ray Whitney comes back?

Ray Whitney is one of the best in the league at facilitating a successful power play, and I have no doubt he will find his place on the first unit when he returns. I see a place where Ray Whitney fits in the top six, but I am not sure I am happy about it. I feel that Roussel is the most likely person to be dropped down in the line up when Whitney returns. I may be jumping the gun, but I really enjoy Roussel being on the second line with Roy and Cole. I feel that they have a nice chemistry and give quality minutes when they are on the ice, especially after that last game. With that thinking we have a line up of:

Eriksson - Benn - Jagr

Whitney - Roy - Cole

Roussel - Eakin - Smith

Nystrom - Fiddler - Garbutt

That leaves one very important man out of the line up. Brenden Morrow. I know this has been talked about over and over again, but the Cole trade makes Morrow expendable. We all saw how Morrow responded to fourth line minutes at the beginning of the season. I believe the Stars are biding their time before Whitney comes back to trade Morrow. I am ready to move on and have been for a little while now. I like and respect Morrow but, he is not what he used to be and does not fit in our line up anymore.

I would also not be surprised if Eric Nystrom is moved, either. He is in the last year of a contract and would be a nice rental player for a team trying to make a push. Moving Morrow and Nystrom, would create a spot for a young guy to play for the rest of the season. I am interested to see what others think about this depth that has recently happened on our hockey team and the opportunity to open up spots for young guys to play. I personally would not mind seeing Alex Chiasson or Colton Sceviour get some playing time on our fourth line after the trade deadline.
