Jordie Benn Headed Back to Austin?

Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE

The Stars defenseman Tweets he's headed back to Texas as the Stars clear roster space to make room for Derek Roy.

With center Derek Roy set to rejoin the Dallas Stars for Monday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, the team was going to have to make a move to open up a roster spot.

That move appears to have come late Sunday night (at least Mountain time), as defensemen Jordie Benn Tweeted that he was headed back to Texas.

While there was nothing officially announced by the team about sending Benn back to the AHL's Texas Stars, it would make sense on a number of levels. The Stars were carrying eight defensemen after calling up Jamie Olekskiak late last week, and Benn was a healthy scratch for Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Benn, who was an injury call-up during the 2011-12 season, made the team out of camp and played in the first eight games of the season for Dallas with a minus-3 rating and seven shots taken in 19:47 per game. He had a very successful season with the Texas Stars before being called up for training camp, posting 7 goals, 11 assists and a plus-4 rating in 34 games.

Roy has not played for Dallas since the fourth game of the season. He has a pair of assists and was key to the Stars transition game in the early going.
