Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Matej Stransky's Saskatoon Blades Break Franchise Win Record

How have the Dallas Stars prospects done in this past week of hockey? Defending Big D is committed to to giving you weekly updates as their seasons progress

Its been a recording breaking week for Matej Stransky's Saskatoon Blades, Gemel Smith returns from injury and Ludwig Bystrom tries his hand at forward.

In the OHL Brett Ritchie had 2 goals through two games this week both coming in a single game on Saturday night. He missed a single game this week with an upper body injury returned to action the next game.

Gemel Smith also returns from injury this week and played two games with Owen Sound Attack. He went pointless and finished the week with an even plus minus.

Radek Faksa is still out with an MCL strain but could be back playing for the Kitchener Rangers within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully he will be able to produce ad be effective for the Rangers following his return from injury.

In the WHL Matej Stransky has had a very impressive week with 8 points in four games, (6 goals, 2 assists). The Saskatoon Blades broke their franchise record for the number of straight wins and have extended it to 15 straight. During their record breaking game Stransky dominated with a first period hat trick and finished the night with 4 points in front of Stars Assistant GM Les Jackson. In the 15 game streak Stransky has had 25 points.

Mike Winther played three games this week and had a goal and an assist through them. His move to centre this season, he played the previous seasons on the wing, has meant that he has beaten his assist totals from the previous season. Branden Troock is still out with injury and has been limited to 19 games on the season.

Troy Vance has had three assist and a goal through three games for the Prince Edward Island Rocket, including a 2 point night on Sunday during their 8-2 win over Cape Breton. Teammate Maxime Lagace came in relief in their 7-5 win on Thursday and let in 1 goal from 8 shots. He also played the full 60 minutes on Sunday letting in 2 of 16 shots against.

John Klingberg had two assists as Skelleftea won all three of their games this week, including a 9-1 drumming of Brynas. He didn't have any points in that game however.

Emil Molin played two games and went pointless with a -2 rating for the week. Ludwig Bystrom also played two games this week. Interestingly he played on Orebro's second line as a Right Wing for one of those games (Or at least the official documentation says so). Whether this was due to injuries or they were experimenting I don't know but he played on the third defensive pairing the next game. He went pointless through those two games.

Jyrki Jokipakka went pointless through three games this week. He had an interesting game on Saturday playing a grand total of 30:33 and finishing a -2 in a 5-4 defeat at the hands of SaiPal. Ilves have secured sole possession of 14th place, the bottom spot in the SM-Liiga, and are 17 points below the team in 13th. It appears almost certain they will be relegated from the SM-Liiga.

Devin Shore and Alex Guptill have had good weeks in the NCAA. Devin Shore had two assists through two games and Alex Guptill had 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist) in two games. Curtis McKenzie had a single assist through two games. Scott Winkler went pointless and Dmitry Sinitsyn did not play a single game again this week.
