Dallas' Tyler Seguin a Game-Time Decision; Phil Kessel Will Go for Toronto

Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

The Stars almost caught a break with Kessel ailing, but if they're lucky they just might get Tyler Seguin back in the lineup tonight.

Tyler Seguin skated yesterday on his own. He participated in morning skate in Toronto ahead of the team's matchup with the Maple Leafs tonight - But whether or not he'll play is still a mystery.

[UPDATE: Seguin will play versus Toronto tonight, per Mike Heika:

Mike Heika is speculating, cautiously, that Seguin will be back in the lineup, and therefore we will also. Very cautiously. Like Dallas Stars head coach Lindy Ruff.

"I've guessed on these situations a lot of times before," Ruff said. "And it's encouraging that he felt good yesterday and he felt good today. He gets through the rest of the day and we'll see where he is tonight."

The bad news is that Ryan Garbutt has a bone bruise on his foot or ankle after taking a shot there Tuesday in Chicago, so he'll miss some time.

So lines will probably be those I guessed in the game preview, but with Dustin Jeffrey taking Ryan Garbutt's place...

Jamie Benn-Tyler Seguin-Rich Peverley
Ray Whitney-Cody Eakin-Alex Chiasson
Antoine Roussel-Vern Fiddler-Dustin Jeffrey
Erik Cole-Shawn Horcoff-Valeri Nichushkin

And that is a shame, because that Fiddler line, and Garbutt especially, were on such a nice run there, defending well and playing with the puck quite a bit due to the application of their speed.

Then there's this bit of curious news:

Alex Goligoski-Trevor Daley
Brenden Dillon-Jamie Oleksiak
Kevin Connauton-Sergei Gonchar

Connauton and Gonchar? Yes, Mike Heika also reports that Jordie Benn, uninjured, skated late today and will likely be the health scratch on defense.

On the other side the Stars almost caught a break when Phil Kessel left practice early yesterday. Almost.

"Phil Kessel will play tonight," former Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle confirmed. "Colton Orr had a procedure on his elbow- he will not play. Tyler Bozak has an MRI and has an oblique strain so he will be out an extended period of time."
