Do you think you know what Lindy Ruff will do from game to game with his lines? "Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin" is about the only thing that's certain any more, and it's making for an entertaining ride through the regular season.
Taking a stab at the lines in the game preview didn't work out for me. Here's Ruff's interpretation from morning skate:
The big caveat there is that Ryan Garbutt is a game-time decision after resting his foot this morning. That would presumably push Colton Sceviour back out as Garbutt took that place.
After skating Cole with Horcoff and Nichushkin for most of Tuesday night it appears that line will now be spread across three. As for Ray Whitney with Horcoff and Peverley - maybe they're trying to get the Wizard going a little bit with a different look for chemistry's sake.
The news doesn't end with the ever shuffling forward group as it appears that Aaron Rome will make his 2013-2014 debut tonight.
No D-pairs in skate, but guess is: Goligoski-Dillon, Jordie Benn-Gonchar, Rome-Oleksiak. Kari Lehtonen will be in net. Carter Hutton for NSH— Mike Heika (@MikeHeika) December 12, 2013
So Kevin Connauton, after a bit of a rough night Tuesday (alright, it was rough for everyone) will take a seat. If Heika is right, that Rome/Oleksiak pairing will raise an eyebrow or two.
"It looked like we were getting him close," Ruff told Mike Heika this morning, "and then he got hurt in practice and it's taken a while to get him back up to speed again. I think we're going to find out tonight what he can do in a defending category."
