Austin Smith had a couple of phenomenal backhand goals on Friday night.
Here's something to lighten the mood while we wait on word of the lockout (which probably isn't ending tonight.)
Smith scored two goals and added two assists for the Idaho Steelheads on Friday night in another big offensive performance for the rookie in the ECHL. Both goals were of the ultimate highlight variety but only the second was apparently honored tonight as the No. 2 highlight on Sportscenter's Top 10 list.
You can watch video of the two goals here.
Smith added a goal and two assists on Saturday (that's seven points in two games this weekend) and how has 19 goals and 11 assists in 23 games with the Steelheads. Smith leads the team in goals and is sceond on the team in overal scoring and has a plus-17 rating in those 23 games.
It's these sorts of goals that we expected to see from the dynamic forward, who scored highlight-reel goals with ease while in college. Smith will be in the AHL, most likely, once the lockout is over and I have a feeling there will be more of these to come back home in Texas.
