Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Guptil Continues Strong, Slow Week For Everyone Else

Bruce Bennett

How have the Dallas Stars prospects done in this past week of hockey? Defending Big D is committed to to giving you weekly updates as their seasons progress.

It's been a slow week for Dallas Stars prospects across the Major Juniors, NCAA and Europe this week with no-one in particular putting up a statistically strong week. On the bright side it appears that Alex Guptil is continuing strong and had a goal and an assist for the University of Michigan in the last two games.

Brett Ritchie and Radek Faksa returned from the Dallas Stars Training Camp in time to play a couple of games for their junior clubs. Both had a single assist through their two games of the week. Radek Faksa missed Kitchener's last game of the week due to a lower body injury. Gemel Smith played three games this week and he also had a single assist through those three games. After the disruption of playing in the WJC and then going to training camp hopefully Ritchie and Faksa will return to top form.

In the WHL Matej Stransky had two assists for the Saskatoon Blades in their last three games though they only won one of those three games. Mike Winther had a single goal through two games for the Prince Albert Raiders. Branden Troock continues to slowly put up the points scoring another goal to make it 5 on the season. He has only played 19 games this season due to injury.

In the QMJHL Troy Vance has a single assist through three games for the Prince Edward Island Rockets. However they only won one of those three games this week. In the game in which Maxime Lagace played he let in 5 goals in a 5-2 defeat.

Emil Molin has been shifted down the lineup in Brynas again and is now rotating between the third and fourth lines. In the two games this week he averaged 11 minutes on the ice per game. He registered zero points.

John Klingberg after his epic four point game last week has cooled down and has not registered a point this week through two games. He is averaging about 15 minutes on the ice per game for Skelleftea.

Ludwig Bystrom has played his first two games for Orebro of the Allsvenskan and has yet to register a point. Though the Allsvenskan website is hard to find information off it appears that Bystrom played those two games as the 7th defenseman. They don't have details of ice time on the website that I could find. Hopefully this is so he can adjust to how they play rather than something that is going to become a permanent feature.

Jyrki Jokipakka and IIves are struggling hard at the moment. Jokipakka has had zero points through their last three games, all of which they lost. One slight silver lining to an otherwise dark cloud is that he continues to wrack up the ice time, averaging 22 minutes per game, and that he was only a -1 in a 5-0 loss at the hand of Jokerit.

As has already been mentioned Alex Guptil had a good week with a goal and an assist through two goals. Curtis McKenzie also scored a goal in one of his two games this week. All the other Stars prospects were pointless through their respective games.
