Not trying to get too far ahead here... especially considering the season JUST started! However, just curious what people's thoughts were on the possibility of Ryan Getzlaf becoming a free agent. Sounds like the Ducks main priority is going to be resigning Corey Perry first and then Getzlaf second. However, the Ducks may not have enough cap space and even if they do he may still want to test the market. We saw Benn and Getzlaf played well together on the ice, as well as off at the clubs, so I'm wondering if Benn could lure Getzlaf here. There's not a lot of great UFA free agents on Defense coming up this offseason to spend on and with a possibility of Jagr, Ryder, Morrow, Nystrom and Roy not be resigned (although I'm guessing Roy will) we're going to have a lot of cap space.
A 1-2 Center combo of Getzlaf and Roy would be great, especially if we can sign a guy like Roy to a shorter 2 to 4 year deal because I'm assuming Getzlaf will want a big pay day. I like the Stars prospects at Center but it's still not phenomenal. You've gotta think even though they say Faksa is close to NHL ready the Stars still don't like to rush players and probably want to get him some AHL experience first.
Obviously a lot of question marks coming into the season with Roy and Eakin but I think its something to keep an eye on both with how the Stars look at the Center position and how the Ducks do in the standings especially near the trade deadline in April.
Here's the 2013 UFA's if anyone's curious...
