It was a tough season for the Texas Stars goaltender, who entered this season in a backup role and never seized the opportunity to take over the starting job once Richard Bachman was promoted to the NHL. Tyler Beskorowany was expected to compete for the starter's job with Bachman this season yet once the season for the Stars took a downhill turn, Beskorowany faded along with the team.

What's frustrating is that Beskorowany had been one of the more impressive goaltenders for the Stars in training camp last fall and it seemed his development was taking a turn for the better. After a strong start to his pro carer with the Idaho Steelheads, Besko came to the AHL last season and was fairly impressive in 18 games backing up Bachman. There was talk about Besko becoming the next in line for the backup role in Dallas, not Bachman, and the start to the AHL season caught many by surprise.

To be fair, the team in front of him in Texas was not very strong -- with the defense being the biggest weakness. The season started poorly and Besko never responded well and once Andrew Raycroft came to Austin, it was apparent that Besko was not going to be able to take that next step this season.

Beskorowany had a lot of trouble with confidence and mechanics this season, with poor positioning belying his large frame and ability to take up most of the net with his size. Yet, too many times he would appear small in goal and allow goals from distance. Jack Campbell showed how a goaltender can still make a difference on a bad team, putting up respectable numbers the final month of the season for Texas; a counter to the goaltending the Stars had received for most of the season.

It's hopeful that with a new coach and a new system, Beskorowany can recover from an extremely disappointing season and regain his confidence and drive. He has the tools to be a good goaltender and for a while was considered the more promising prospect between himself and Bachman. With Jack Campbell now in the AHL, he'll continue to play a backup role.
