Adam Pardy Recalled, Lehtonen In Net; Stars Shuffling Lines?
Adam Pardy, as was expected, has been recalled from his conditioning stint with the Texas Stars. He played in two games and recorded four assists (including three last night) to go along with a +1 rating. He was not at morning skate today but will rejoin the team. It's not expected he'll play.
Kari Lehtonen will start in net tonight, says Mike Heika, so expect to see Richard Bachman tomorrow as the Stars try to break the 0-8-1 streak on second nights of back to backs.
What's really interesting, however, is that the Stars may be shuffling up their lines, if the morning skate combinations are any indication. Mike Heika reports on twitter from Columbus that the Stars ran these combinations this morning:
Ott-Benn-Vincour
Eriksson-Ribeiro-Ryder
Nystrom-Fiddler-Dvorak
Petersen-Wandell-Burish
Vincour was recalled upon Brenden Morrow's placement on the injured reserve list and has since played on a line with Vernon Fiddler and Radek Dvorak, then on the fourth line with Tommy Wandell and Toby Petersen. Now it appears as though he could jump up to play with Benn, a trio that many feel would have some pretty powerful puck possession skills.
***Last week against the Wild the Stars ran combinations at morning skate that they then did not use when game time rolled around, so we take all of this with an enormous grain of salt. Vincour was placed on the ice with Jamie Benn and Steve Ott for one (and only one) even strength faceoff against Phoenix Tuesday late in the third period, for what it's worth. What do you think?
Release from Stars on Pardy...
Frisco, TX - The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Adam Pardy from the Texas Stars, Dallas' primary affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). He is scheduled to rejoin the Dallas Stars tonight in Columbus.
Pardy, 27, has played the last two games for Texas in a conditioning assignment, collecting four assists and a +1 rating. Prior to being assigned to Texas, Pardy skated in 22 games for Dallas, recording one assist and 15 shots. The 6-4, 220-pound defenseman from Bonavista, NL has appeared in 169 NHL games, notching 27 points (four goals, 23 assists).
The Dallas Stars faceoff against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at 6 p.m. CT at Nationwide Arena (TV: FOX Sports Southwest; Radio: 1310 The Ticket).

These look good.
Let’s be honest, whatever line Benn is on will be a good line. So why not make something like this? We have an incredibly skilled and potent scoring line in the Ribeiro line while having solid puck possession/forecheck on that Benn line. I still say get a top 2 center in here before the trade deadline and move Benn back to wing, but that’s just me.
Theoritically it could be a good combo
Ott gets in their head and drives to the middle….Vincour uses his abilities to secure the puck along the boards and make some space….and Benn weaves in and out of the remaining guys to score.
It feels like there is a nice mix to the line. We’ll see if they actually use it and if it works.
Sure changing lines is just shuffling the deck…but you never know when you may shuffle and come out with an Ace.
Hmm...never noticed that.
Strange

Benn
Has more impact on the game at C. It allows him to make his teammates better and not to mention his 2-way game.

Agree
Why move a big #1 PPG center to wing? Do that and you likely don’t find a #1 C anywhere else.

I've heard Melrose say the same thing

big fish, small pond
he asserted himself. used his size and skill and i kept thinking “why am i just now seeing this?”
i chalked it up to him being an NHL’er in the AHL, but in the back of my head i wondered if he’s hesitant or tentative while playing with the Stars.

Good to see Vincour possibly getting top 6 minutes
Maybe they should use him at the net on the PP as well. Last game they had Eriksson at the net with Ribeiro and Ryder. Not sure that’s the most effective use of Eriksson on the PP.
Vincour has been really good along the boards
Not sure using him in front of the net maximizes his skill set right now
I’m not going to argue against more Vincour ice time though….so whatevs.

He just seems like a big body to put in front
Yeah he’s good at puck retrieval, but so is Eriksson.
I don't want to know what my man score is

Funny
Just looked at HFboards Stars section. They think the Benn line looks horrible. HFboards thinks DBD is bad, DBD thinks HFboards is bad. I referenced something from DBD there the other day and someone quoted me and said I had no credibility due to it. Same happens here if someone references something from HF.

I don't know much about ScubaSteve (I've never noticed him here)
But I have no problem with HF boards. It’s not my cup of tea, though.
What I get frustrated with is dealing with people panicking over trade rumors that started in a discussion thread at HF Boards, which happens all the darn time.

they needed to do this tuesday.
benn with puck, the others scrap to the net.
ribs with puck, the others scrap to the net.
it puts the best possible top 6 players all in their best possible places to produce.
And to be more aggressive shooting the puck.
Benn has been very unselfish this season and will be looking to create chances for himself and the others on his line.
"The Dallas Cowboys announced they have released Jerry Jones."
The only exemption I'd give is Ryder.

yeah i agree
he just needs to shoot shoot shoot. but he’s had a couple of quality goals barging the net, the B’s game is the first to jump in mind, then the snazzy little near-side snipe against the canes.
yep
I just think the more he shoots, the better chance for rebounds. Oh snap! I guess that would go for the whole team as well

Anything
ANYTHING to get a better effort from them. Except for putting Adam Pardy on the ice. That should never happen.
id play vincour top line
and on PP the remainder of the season. this kid is supposed to be one of the reasons we could trade james neal. he plays these minutes in cedar park. throw him into the fire, cant be any worse than us not scoring anyway.
plus ive got nothing wrong with a top line of a 6-3 center, a 6-4 power winger, and a 6 even pepper pot.
Have they had any closed-door team meetings?
I remember several years ago they were doing pretty bad and they had some internal players-only meeting and came out playing much better as a team. I wonder if something similar could help here. They have showed that when they trust in themselves and each other they can play well and compete with most teams in the league. They just seem a little lost right now and discombobulated
Granted a meeting like this needs to be more spontaneous than planned...
But it would make me feel better if I knew the players were as concerned as we fans are. I truly believe that they are, but of course none of us knows what happens in the locker room so we are left to speculate.
well
You know what they say in sports when theres a players only meeting!
The wheels have come off and they usually don’t work. Also, I don’t think we have that player voice on this team.

Really like Vincour getting a shot with Benn.
Hopefully this actually is given a chance in the game.
I think the Benn line looks like crap.
Ott doesn’t belong on the top line and Vincour hasn’t shown much offensive capability. Looks more like a 3rd line to me.
@AdamBath on Twitter
Just saw your post on HFboards saying the same thing, ha
I agree I’d have Loui there. But do want to see Vincour thrown into the fire and see if he can do something.
by StarzenheimerSchmidt on Feb 9, 2012 1:04 PM CST up reply actions
really
Because the other line mates used with Benn havnt worked. We all want loui with Benn, that’s a given. Now you have a puck Hogg in vincour, and it frees up ott to just shoot or stay around the net. Infact this line should spend the whole game on top of the goalie(presence in the crease) something we seriously lack. Ott & I thought Ryder should have been with ribs the whole season. He needs a sniper, Louis can get the garbage goals.

The Ott/Vincour problem is that they're kind of redundant
I wanted to see Ryder with Benn/Vincour
I suspect they’re going to give Ribeiro/Ryder a TON of offensive zone starts though, and let Ott/Vincour/Benn carry the puck from their own end a bunch.

ribeiro ryder starting in the defensive zone is a terrifying prospect
although loui offsets some of my fear of this

I stand corrected
Having ott on the 2nd line to take all the draws would be ideal. It just baffles me that a line with ribs would be so inept. Ryder has bennifited from playing along side 14. Maybe he can spark ribs by going to those shooting areas. Sometimes it just seems like he’s looking at places to pass to instead of people
