SB Nation Dallas Editor's Pick
Young, Controllable and Talented
Ultimately I think this is what Joe and the Stars are aiming to do - make a team capable of pushing for a division title for an extended period of time and be legitimate contenders (ex. Hawks, Bruins, Pens, etc.).
I don't really put any stock in to these ideas but at the same time they can provoke some thought and dialogue.

The article outlines the talk where Gaglardi cites the need for another top-6 forward. The writer presents the idea, purely on speculation, where the Stars would look to acquire Chris Stewart from the Blues; a struggling 24 year old RFA power-forward with hands. Going the other way? Suggests Michael Ryder or Souray and obviously other pieces. But I think he fits the mold of a player that would interest the Stars: young, controllable, and talented.
What would you guys trade for Stewart? What other players who meet the criteria of: young, controllable, and talented (assume top 6 forward or top pairing d-man if you wish to go that route) would you like to acquire? I don't have a very good grasp of the value our prospects hold and would be interested to see what some of you conjure up. Thanks.

im not sure about stewart
seems like a good player but i dont know how much upside he really has. the problem with trading for a guy like him is that he’s young, only the worst gm’s in hockey are going to give up a young player for veterans when they have a team that isn’t in the hunt for the cup. i really have no idea who is going to be available come the trade deadline but i really dont want joe to give up the farm for somebody, even a parise. i would rather take a run at him in free agency, at least then you dont give up anything to get him.
by the way worst e-news ever...
I'm sure about his upside if nothing else
Two 28 goal seasons, last year he had 28 goals in 62 games. Definite 30+ goal potential.

I don't know, I think Stewart can be a huge spark plug if he's in the right situation
He was magic last year in both Colorado and St. Louis; seems to be having an off year this year which could be due to the strong showings from so many other young Blues’ thus far.
I think he brings a different type of skillset than Nealer. In my mind, Stewart has better hands with the puck and will drop the gloves without hesitation. He kind of reminds me of a more raw version of Benn but also with a lower ceiling. If the asking price wasn’t substansial (based on Chris’ performance this year), I wouldn’t mind taking a run at him, but I wouldn’t want to give up a key peice to our lineup.
There is no chance Chris Stewart is going to be dealt here.
Please sign me up if its possible.

Cody Hodgson from Van would be a nice acquisition.
But it would depend on how badly the Canucks want Morrow, if he is willing to waive his NTC, what else the Stars would be willing to give up which would be a lot.

Team Personality
I don’t know what can be done about the Stars. More talent may help, but there is something inherently wrong with them. Getting rid of Mike Modano didnt seem to change their attitude. It is getting old wondering which team will show up tonight. Maybe the next aquisition needs to be a team psychologist.
