Right, but that isn't a lack of leverage.
They might have motivation to make a move, but that doesn’t mean they have to take a lesser package to do so. They’ll have the #1 pick with or without Nash. If they don’t like the offers they could easily wait until the draft. Teams that want him for an extra playoff push have reason to match the Jackets needs if they aren’t astronomical.

While the eternal fan in me really wanted to see us make a splash and sneak into the playoffs, in reality we are more than one piece away from contending. I think I’d rather us be sellers and re-group in the offseason with actual ownership.

Probably a good decision.

I think what he really means
is the ability to be strong on the puck. Not necessarily weight, but just the ability to position one’s self and use leverage to keep control of it
I think they're big enough to do that now to be honest.
They’re just passive. They let other teams bring that to them instead of initiating it.

I agree they're big enough
but they don’t do it very well. Loui does. Benn does. A healthy Morrow does. But other than that… It’s an effort thing. The will to win a battle even when you shouldn’t be able to. They don’t seem to have that.

Are farther away than anyone has been willing to admit. This team is Weak, and notice the capital W. time to admit the truth folks, we’re borderline bottom feeders, but not quite bad enough to get a top pick. This is going to be a rough 3 or 4 years, probably more.

Yes, the Stars are fairly far away from contending. However, I don’t think it’s going to be a “rough” 3 or 4 years by any stretch of the imagination. We’ve got a solid, young nucleus to build on.

The issue that hurt us
for the past several years was the fact that we didn’t have an owner and have been a floor team. Keep in mind that we have a new owner who has claimed that he is prepared to spend in order to make this team a contender

No problem.
They usually won’t call gloves off in a scrum, either, because some sneaky players will try and yank others gloves off. The 2 for unsportsmanlike is the type Ott likes to draw, where one guy wants to fight and the other skates away.
When you get to actual contact, a single punch to the head or any other sort of hands-to-head (facewash, headlock, etc.) contact is 2 for roughing. Multiple punches thrown is supposed to be fighting, though again, you will hardly ever see that called unless a clear square-off spins away from the scrum.

The refs, like most of us, didn't realize he was on the ice.
First time I’ve seen him do anything all game is when he’s sliding on his side into the boards.

The way the 1st went, they were lucky to be down 2-0, and they were both kinda ugly goals
but they aren’t in Detroits class and this result doesn’t surprise me too much

The loss amplifies the feeling of dread for me because its like an instant replay of last year where we came out strong, made it look like we had a chance, and then crumbled after the all star break.
Congratulations to detroit on there record, theyre clearly the superior team and showed it. My hope is that we can pick something up at the trade deadline and make some key signings to at least see the playoffs next year.

I understand Loui getting that kind of ice, but having Ribs on the ice for 1/3 of the game seems excessive.
This game could have been very different if they were able to capitalize on opportunities.
Benn, Ott, Loui all had glorious chances.

Which was really a bit of an overachievement given the talent level outside of a handful of players.
Blowing a team up is for the Columbus, Carolinas and Montreals of the league, not a team that is still only a few points out of a playoff spot.

If it looks like we’re holding a fire sale, that puts the Stars at a disadvantage because other teams know the Stars are desperate. It’s not as easy as your making it sound.

its a buyers market this year.. there are precious few players available and alot of teams trying to just make it in the playoffs
teams like clb/car/edm have made mistakes(IMO) by resigning their most tradeable assets
im not saying were going to get brayden schenn for morrow but he could get atleast a 1st and a 3rd like versteeg did last year… all im saying is if this trend continues it would be wise to trade some of the older players if we get good value and they’re willing to waive

I kind of expected them to win at least 1 game against Detroit this season...
Last time they lost every game versus Detroit in 1 season was 93-94…
Course that season the Rangers also won the cup, maybe there’s a correlation there.
