Starting to warm up to him, now that I've gotten realistic about Wandell.
Barring a huge signing (or Smith coming and tearing it up), I could see the guy taking and keeping a 2nd line spot next year.

Dvorak's probably gone after this year, right?
Just slide him in there to start out next year, and have him earn it from that spot. Nystrom-Fiddler-Vincour wouldn’t be terrible at all.

My point is that wanting/needing to trade someone because they aren't playing well seems counterintuitive.
We want to trade players for assets for now and the future, and if someone is playing poorly that won’t work as well as we’d need.
Now, I agree that he’s expendable because I doubt he has a future with this team….which is unfortunate. But I think he’s a valuable asset because he’s expendable and because he has attributes that other teams would want.

It's just that we need him to be defensively solid
He won’t score and he’s not physical. If he keeps turning over the puck, he’s worse than useless. Plus, we need the spot for Fistric and Larsen.

Well, I'd argue that Fistric isn't better than Grossman.
But my point is that wanting to trade a player because he isn’t playing well isn’t exactly how the system works. Teams don’t want to pay top dollar for a player that isn’t playing well, so we’ll probably be a bit disappointed in how much of a return we get.
Then again, Grossman isn’t playing as poorly overall as it seems. At least not overall.

He may not be very good
but at least he’s played better than Grossman this season. He’s at least willing to hit someone.

Who care if he hits people? That's irrelevant.
Fistric has been sheltered his entire career under three different coaching staffs. He plays the weakest competition nightly, and never starts in the defensive zone while contributing nothing offensively. He isn’t even trusted to kill many penalties.
So either NHL player evaluators over the course of four years are wrong….or the handful of people pulling for Fistric to get ice time are mistaken because they’ve overvaluing hits.

Or, they just like Fistric.
And that’s fine.
But this anti-Grossman backlash when he’s the Stars top penalty killing defenseman and he’s being forced into a second pairing role right now is crazy to me. He needs to be used like Fistric was being used (third pair/weak competition/away from the net basically on the roster just to kill penalties and play mop up minutes), but he can’t because they aren’t deep enough.

I'm not arguing that Fistric should see any ice time
but we’ve been pretty bad on D this year and Grossman just hasn’t looked good at all this year. Hits might not be worth much, but at least I know what I’m getting with Fistric whereas Grossman could be superb one night and then give up a heartbreaking goal the next. I’ll take the devil I know in this case

What you get from Fistric, though, is nothing.
What you’ll get from Grossman almost every night is very good penalty killing.

I’m just really frustrated at this team right now and how we can’t seem to have any real consistency. So I want to see things change to solve the problem. For better or worse, I’ve set my eyes on Grossman. Is it fair to him? No. Would Fistric be any better? No. But I feel angry and like we have to do something to stop this downward spiral

After watching Grossman this period, I have to ask if anyone knows when Nemeth is due to come up (2 or 3 years probably?). Because a Grossman-like defenseman without the knack for turnovers would be a nice asset.

Benn's skating hard, but that's the only core guy I see actually giving 100%.
They need to get a fully healthy Morrow to come back and start throwing his body around like he used to. Or a replacement for that physicality he brings. The lack of effort out there is embarassing.

The Kings had seven shots at that goal and probably fewer chances (only you know for sure). The Stars have had the better of the play in this game. It obviously doesn’t show in the score, and they desperately need it to.

The Kings have been offensively challenged all year.
The chances are even, and the chances don’t say anything about who is being passive.
The Stars have had plenty of chances to create more offense and they’re not taking it. They’re letting the Kings bring the physical game to them and it’s leading to turnovers/penalties. The Kings aren’t having those issues. They just can’t score.

He sits right behind the goal (the one Kari is at right now), slams the glass and has a seizure ever time the puck is over there. He’s at every game too.
When I used to have season tickets, he was the exact same way. This was 3-4 years ago.
He’s some son of a rich guy in town. If anyone says anything about it he just flips them off. Class act.

Burish is the only guy who I would consider, but that wouldn’t exactly help with the offensive problems. And they’re not getting torched defensively tonight, so I can’t see why they would move Vincour down tonight.

he’s struggled to score and he’s not our best defensive forward, so it’s understandable that he would’t play in OT. But to move him down and not move anyone up doesn’t make any sense to me

Seeing as how Gaglardi is still new to the organization
I feel that he will defer to GM Joe for now. He knows that we need to make the playoffs but that we also need to rebuild/retool and Joe knows more about how to accomplish those best than he does right now

I never said he was
but he’s still unfamiliar with the entirety of the organization and this is what GMs exist for. If he’d been the owner for a year or two now, it’d be more likely for him to do something like that in my opinion. But I just have a feeling that he’ll defer barring an absolute collapse (6-0 or something along those lines for the remaining games).

Ribeiro released him to Larsen
Because Larsen is supposed to be front of the net first, and if Ribeiro drops down with him, he’ll be double covered and another guy will be open.
Larsen has to make sure Goligoski has complete control before abandoning his defensive responsibilites

Clearly Larsen had no idea that Ribeiro was going to release his coverage.
It’s a communication issue….they always fail when they have to think on their feet.
Ribeiro has to be helping out in some way on that play. He’s standing there flat footed doing nothing. If he sees Larsen going to give an outlet he needs to follow his guy to the net. All they have to do is open their mouths.

As a communication issue, I totally agree
And we don’t know who that’s on – Ribeiro could have yelled he was letting him go and Larsen didn’t act on it or Larsen could have yelled he was going behind the net and Ribeiro didn’t get it or whatever.
I’m of the school that defensemen can’t leave their solid positioning until possession has been secured, and that puck on the wall was in no way secured. That’s why Larsen gets a little more of my eye roll on that play.

That isn't fair to Larsen.
He was actively trying to make something happen vs Ribeiro allowing the play to get away from him.
He might have said something to Larsen, but with how quickly Larsen reacted after seeing Ribeiro on his man I think Ribeiro just assumed that Larsen would pick up the coverage. I’ll always side with the guy trying to make the aggressive play.

I mean standing still versus actively trying to make something happen. If the last thing Larsen saw was Ribeiro on his man then I don’t think he was overly aggressive. He was just trying to open an outlet for Goligoski.
It goes back to communication/being worthless defensively because of it.

They're a 500 team.

Yeah, it's frustrating.
But it could be worse and frankly, we’re lucky it hasn’t been worse than it has been the past two years.
I think one reason we are so frustrated is because we see the potential, then get let down. That’s where the anger and frustration comes from.

Doesn’t know how to shoot the puck or throw it at the net and hope for a rebound. Love how we can’t beat a team on a back to back coming from Long Island. Grossman just sucks. I knew the kings would score that 3rd goal when we decided to go backwards instead of just try and clear it out. This team gives me heart attacks every night.
