Stars Uniform Survey

With a new owner and team president in place, and most Stars fans not really a big fan of the current Stars uniforms (either because of the lack of green, the lack of logo, or the blankness of them), I thought now would be a good time to poll Stars fans on what exactly they'd like to see in a Stars uniform.

I'll get a general idea by polling you guys, and then take what you say and try to put it down on paper and see what it looks like.

Star-divide

Choose one from the following categories.

Primary home color: Black, Dark Green, or Kelly Green. Or if you want some radical new color scheme, tell me about it.

Primary home crest: Traditional STARS logo, Texas secondary logo, or DALLAS wordmark.

Pants/Helmet/Gloves color: Black, Dark Green, or Kelly Green.

Uniform Design: Traditional (think Devils, Leafs, Oilers, or Bruins), Simple (think Coyotes, Blue Jackets, Current Stars sweaters), Modern (think Capitals, Predators, or Kings). Use your own words to describe what sort of look you want, and I'll do my best to find something that pleases most of us.

Which shade of gold?: Metallic gold (Stars, New Orleans Saints), Athletic Gold (aka yellow, Bruins, Green Bay Packers, Predators), Vegas Gold (Pittsburgh Penguins, or even Minnesota Wild "wheat")

Color Hierarchy: Black/Green/Gold, Black/Gold/Green, Green/Black/Gold, Green/Gold/Black, or any other radical new color schemes... or the omission of one of the colors (like just Green and gold, no black. Or just black and gold, no green. etc)

Number/Name font: Go with the standard block letters we've always had in Dallas? Maybe something more western like the Texas Rangers? Modern?

Who knows... the Ottawa Senators just unveiled their fan-made alternate that I think looks pretty good. Maybe the Stars can get some fan-created new uniforms based on the results of this survey?

Some Green and Gold please.

And logo of Stars in front, not text “Dallas”.

Glad you brought this up

Primary home color: Dark Green

Primary home crest: Traditional STARS logo

Pants/Helmet/Gloves color: Black, with dark green and gold mixed in

Uniform Design: I don’t know… I like the 99/00 – 06/07 sweaters… but I also like the current Texas Stars 3rd sweater.

Which shade of gold?: Metallic gold

Color Hierarchy: Green/Black/Gold or Green/Gold/Black

Number/Name font: Block letters are fine – I think that a unique font (Texas Rangers/Colorado Avalanche) is gimmicky.

i like the black because it can give the team a tough image, but at the very least the road jerseys have got to go. more green please.

Hell, I'm even okay with one or the other.

But you can’t have carbon copies just in black or white, with no 3rd to change it up. Especially when they have nothing to do with your team.

i disagree...

neither are good, but the white jersey at least has green gold and black. the black jersey is just black and white with a little gold thrown in.

the home could just as easily be a penguins jersey to someone that can’t read. the road is at least in our team colors.

These are nice.

I am one of the few that actually likes the current black jerseys. Yes, they’re simple, but classy looking, IMO. Or maybe I just like black and gold, what with being a Saints fan and living in Iowa (Iowa Hawkeyes). Either way, I like them. But I definitely want to see a green jersey, either as an alternate or as the new home jersey, with the current black being an alternate.

I’m also a fan of the alternate Texas logo and wouldn’t mind it getting some use.

Nice Start

I would like to see a little more black. I was wondering how this would look if the sides were black. You probably wouldn’t have the strip along the belt anymore but it would be a more modern look.

I'd like to see

what a third jersey in gold would look like. I’ve always been a fan of the (old) Atlanta Thrasher jersey’s. They were always unique.

Something Clever.

by AA6 on Jan 6, 2012 5:15 PM CST reply actions

I can see two options

The first is a clean look. The white jersey has the primary logo and not much else, with numbers and letters in the same font, green (either) trimmed with gold. The dark look simply replaces white with black, keeping the numbers and letters the same color. Maybe add a green and gold tailstripe on both jerseys for flavor.

The second is a traditional minnesota north stars look, with the lime green, athletic gold and the shoulder yolk and a D with a star, or maybe a cowboy hat, on the northwest corner of the letter. Something exactly like this http://www.nhluniforms.com/NorthStars/NorthStars11.html except with the yolk on the white jersey as well.

Either way, lose the stupid front-of-the-jersey numbers and make the captaincy designations a LOT bigger.

by Hillbutton on Jan 6, 2012 7:15 PM CST reply actions

In addendum

The best option would be to bring this look back http://www.nhluniforms.com/Stars/Stars04.html but “that won’t fit the reebok design…”

by Hillbutton on Jan 6, 2012 7:15 PM CST up reply actions

the angle of the star on the jersey and the angle of the star on the crest being different always annoyed me about that jersey. Honestly I think that jersey would work fine with reebok. It would have looked incredibly silly with their initial design being so much tighter but the players have ended up wearing these jerseys pretty loose so it should be easily workable.

The 3D number font is an awesome throwback to the days in MN. I like the Bid D on the crest too but I think the uni needs to say “Dallas” somewhere. Maybe ditch the threee stars on the shorts for the traditional version and we’d be good.

Would be interesting just for the hissy fit that the entire state of Minnesota would throw.

Actually saw someone comment somewhere the other day (maybe PHT) that the Stars didn’t own the right to the North Stars, that the NHL did and that if Minnesota wanted to take the rights back, they could.

NHL technically owns the rights to team identities, i believe.

It’s what allowed the Thrashers to become the Jets, even though the Jets are really the Coyotes.

"He punched the highlights out of her hair.... He punched the HIGHLIGHTS out of her hair!!!" -- Young Neil

by Tsudbury on Jan 11, 2012 1:03 PM CST up reply actions

Right, I get that...

But it seems to me that the team identities sticks with the founding franchise… Right? While the Jets in Winnipeg are the Jets, they aren’t the original Jets, and therefore have no right to the lineage and history of the original Jets. So they’ve basically aped the name and nothing else.

Which in the end is what I’m referring to – the namesake may be up for grabs… but what about the team colors and logos? The Winnipeg Thrashers went with the Jets name, but the logo and colors are new… So, if another Minnesota team decided on North Stars, would they be able to take the colors and logos? Or do the colors and logos stick with a franchise?

Carpe diem!

by dmoore44 on Jan 11, 2012 2:09 PM CST up reply actions

Not sure. I'm in agreement with you though.

The franchise records from the original Jets still belongs to the yotes, so i’d think you’re right.

Anything that isn't as lame as the current ones.

I was thinking about them making an RBK version of the original Dallas Stars jerseys (black and whites)

by Trillmike on Jan 7, 2012 11:59 AM CST reply actions

I agree... we should stick with what many of us love.

Making a RBK version of the 90’s jersey would suit this project well. The remake would have a certain degree of updating from the newer materials, cut/shaping, and details like the NHL shield at the collar. This jersey design has the green, gold and black componts most fans are asking for and the look is 100% Dallas Stars. Let’s not reinvent the wheel, we just need to make the wheel a little better.

by TheGeach on Jan 8, 2012 10:03 AM CST up reply actions

I think they are the only modle that would look good in RBK

Don’t get me wrong I loved the forest green gold and black (the gold star trim on the bottom half), but I don’t think that they translate well on the edge jersey.

by Trillmike on Jan 7, 2012 12:55 PM CST reply actions

I have a few ideas.

The first one is a bit out there. I saw them on CCSLC forums, and was blown away. I’m not usually one to be into modern uniforms like these, but something along these lines would be awesome as an alternate. Here’s the lighter one, and here’s a darker green.

The other idea is the jerseys we use on the online team. We’re pretty limited on choices (create a team is less than stellar on nhl 12), but you get the basic gist of it. Here’s the home and away.

I have an ongoing love affair with Tom Wandell, but it's not gay at all, trust me

I’m good.

As a North Stars fan, I’d love to see a third jersey with the “D” encircled and a Star kinda like the earlier link – think the Blues or Wild. It’s a classy look. In North Stars green – which is not kelly green.

hmm

if i knew how to post pictures, i’d make something to show what i mean, but i don’t, so

Home:
Primary: Dark Green
Secondary: Black
Accent: Metallic Gold
Helmets/Gloves: Black

Away:
Primary: White
Secondary: Dark Green
Accent: Metallic Gold
Helmets: White
Gloves: Black

Alternate:
Same as home, but swap secondary black for silver, just to change it up

Tradition logo on the chest for all 3, with a modern style. Keep the secondary on the shoulders. Modern style generates a new look while everything else keeps all the things (I think) the majority of the fans find most important

I never, never, EVER liked the old North Stars color.

I can see why people like it, nostalgia and all. But as far as like… color scheme? Bright green? Ew. Any of the mid 90’s Stars jerseys are cool. And I do like the Star cutout one too.

i’m putting together four or five concepts right now, using all this feedback…

it’s a shame you guys love dark green so much. i was hoping to use kelly :)

so far i’ve got something green with white shoulders, something based on an updated version of the 90’s sweaters, pretty much a straight translation of the 90’s sweaters to the edge template, and a dark green version of what i posted above.

i might come up with one more, based on what you guys think.

then i’ll make a blog post about it where we can all vote on which design is the best, and i can tweak it from there :)

by Cole Jones on Jan 9, 2012 3:07 PM CST reply actions

Can you put one together like the ones we have on NHL 12?

Mainly the jersey portion of it. The rest you can do with what you like. Just one that has the dark green jersey with black on the shoulder area and gold as an accent color.

Like Hutch said before, our jersey layouts were pretty limited as I think there were maybe 10 different ones to choose from. I like what we came up with and they look decent on the video game, so it’d be cool to see how they look in reality.

well I figured that if the normal home jersey was the dark green

that a third that we wore here and there as north stars green wouldn’t be that bad especially if it’s reminiscent of where the team originated.

And it’d definitely look different unlike the two white jerseys we have now.
