Goose or Neal?

I guess it's been about a year since the trade. I see today the Neal has been named as a replacement on the All-Star team, (congrats to him) and the Stars locked up Goligoski. I personally like what Goligoski has brought but just wondering what everyone else's take is. Did we give up on Neal to quick or was it the right move?

"Bubbles: Delicate Ricky, delicate... Thats blue dye under pressure! That whore blows and we all look like those blue, bald headed dicks that beat the drums.

I think we need both very badly. Its unfortunate it took Neal to get Goligoski. I guess its too close to call for me.

its close but give me goose

i think its more difficult to find a puck moving dman than it is to find a goal scorer like neal. i liked james neal alot when he was here, but his production is based directly on who centers his line. notice how he didnt do a damn thing last year without crosby or malkin. he can score but he just cant seem to create, whereas goligoski can create chances for himself and others. i think this is a perfect example of the rare trade that works out for both teams.

by the way worst e-news ever...

It's amazing how it took playing with Evgeni Malkin to really unleash Neal.

He had just one goal in 20 games with the Penguins last season, and just 2 goals in his final 31 games last season. So what’s the reason he’s exploded this season?

He always had the tools, it was obvious it was mental with him. A fresh start, a full offseason with a very talented team…and playing next to Malkin doesn’t hurt.

I’ll take Goose.

I'm glad we have Goose.

My friend who is fan of Penguins loves Neal.

Both also like the way these players are playing in their new teams.

Can’t ask for more.

Trevor Daley is my cup of tea.

I like Neal

but he was in the way of Benn’s development and I don’t want to imagine this teams defence without Goligoski. We sure could use Neal in our lineup right now though

As much as Neal is scoring now in Pittsburgh

I don’t seem him producing anything close to that here unless there was some chemistry we didn’t know about between him and Ribeiro. You do have to wonder what other player we could have traded him for, though. It was also obvious that Niskanen had some mental obstacle getting in his way playing here, and that it seems to be gone now in Pittsburgh. This trade has worked out beautifully for all 3 of the players involved, which is good to see.

If we still had Neal, then we'd still have Niskanen too

All of Neal’s goals would be cancelled out by the goals that Niskanen would undoubtedly allow.

I’ll take Goligoski.

The D-corps looks depressing if you replace Goose with Niskanen

Goligoski will be more valuable to us going forward than Neal would have, I think.

One of the most fair trades I've seen in a while.

Goli’s been injured and hasn’t had a great year overall in terms of production because of that; but his presence is so badly needed. He’ll be great as the D-corps develops and he’s officially partnered with someone.

I'm still okay with the trade

I like Neal, and seeing him rack up goal after goal during a stretch when we can’t seem to score any has definitely hasn’t been easy.

We absolutely could have used him the past few weeks.

But like others have said, a good pukcmoving D man who can lead a PP are harder to come by than goal scoring wingers. Over the long run, I think Goose will be more valuable and it was a trade that needed to be done.

But man, the past couple weeks have U-G-L-Y for this team and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t missing Neal a little and wishing he was still here.

a lot of you saying we could have used Neal recently

but neal was never the clutch guy in dallas, hes still streaky, and hes always been surrounded by top tier talent.

ill take goose over neal & nisky any day
