maybe if they didn't double the fees for the same service
or if the streaming actually had more than 10 decent films. Or if their streaming contracts weren’t all set to expire. Or if they hadn’t tried to split their company into Qwikster, before realizing how stupid that was. Or if some production companies hadn’t walked away entirely.

Curious...after over half a season in the AHL...
When he’s improved defensively as the season progressed, what are your thoughts on Fraser’s NHL prospects?
I think he projects decently, but he’s the type of player who needs top six minutes to really be effective, and his defensive issues should clear up as he plays more.

I've barely seen him play, but all the powerplay goals in the AHL are a red flag.
And how much better defensively is he if he’s a -12 in half of an AHL season?

Well...in his last 20 games he's just a minus-2
So that’s a bit better after that crazy start to the season. Also, only 2 of his last 11 goals have come on the power play.
I think it’s helped that the Glennie-Sceviour-Wathier line has heated up, and it’s opened up the Fraser line a bit at even strength.

That's a good point.
I’ve seen him a few times and I’ve come away impressed, although it’s obvious he’s still learning about defensive positioning.
Vincour, on the other hand, came to the AHL and the NHL very good defensively already.

Agreed.
At some point, you’d hope that Gulutzan would show some cojones and play the young guys. Can’t keep sticking with the vets just because you’re afraid of them, something we’ve known that’s affected him before this season with the d-men.

It can get kind of sketchy there. Technically, if they are the ones controlling the film, then you are not allowed to use it without their permission, even in the media (see: SportsCenter and the Olympics).

It's all very gray area.
See, I can capture a fight during an NHL game and put that up on YouTube, and that’s covered under fair use. I can do the same with a big hit, because it’s very specific about something from the game and usually only a few minutes long at most.
That’s why the NHL hasn’t taken down hockey-fights.com, or all of those big hit videos all over YouTube. But the NHL approaches it differently than the NBA or the NFL, and MLB won’t allow any of that at all.

i would go ahead and try and contact the on the front end too....
tell them your a college student practicing media, and you want to see if you can use some highlights. say you’ll give credit where they came from, they won’t be extensive clips, and that you’re not profiting from it in any way.

What the footage is, how long the footage is, where you’re getting it from and what you’re using it for.

I hate those calls
I absolutely understand why they call them, because it looks really bad real speed. And I get the rationale because those hits break ankles, femurs, heads and necks.
But I feel for the player who gets called for them because it’s often very minor contact. Like the Zetterberg major from the other night.

Nystrom did get his stick caught in the Ducks’ skate. It was unintentional but in a dangerous situation like that, they’ll call it.
His stick was on the outside of his lead skate, and he fell backwards.
The Duck was trying to protect the puck and fell backwards from what I saw.

On a separate note, Nealer scored his 100th career goal tonight.
Since Goose has also scored, I can stay happy for Nealer tonight!
I can stay happy for Neal regardless.
He’s playing on a line with Malkin, which is fantastic for him. He wouldn’t be that consistent if he were still with the stars, and we wouldn’t have the #1 Dman that we have now.

If you haven’t seen the three Paradise Lost documentaries, please take the time to do so. If you aren’t familiar with the West Memphis Three, then watch them all in order without researching the case. If you are familiar with it…those stories are incredible.
And Peter Jackson just came out with a new documentary, that’s at Sundance now, called West of Memphis — it’s getting a ton of praise.

If memory serves correct
He’d basically doubled his goal production for 3 years in a row and was hitting FA. Makes for an expensive player in a contract year.
That said, would have been MUCH better to keep him instead of signing Avery…

In one of Josh's recent posts
he talked about how Gully makes such a strong effort to protect the 4th line from playing against top competition. Fraser is what, -12 in the AHL? I can’t blame him for not trusting his defensive capabilities in the NHL. PP time is another story though…
Fraser is just minus-2 over his past 20 games.
With 12 goals and 22 points in that time.
