Silver lining, no matter what happens tonight: there should be less red in the stands than last game, and that is always a Good Thing.

8 inches of snow today in Iowa
I’m about half done shoveling the driveway. Now I’m having a beer. I figure when the game starts frustrating me, I’ll go out and finish the other half.
In that case, I hope that you're forced to watch the entire game.

Wow defensive fail
Fistric. The front of the net is all yours on that play. Why are you staring at the guy behind the net? The entire idea behind this defense is one defenseman should always be guarding the front of the net.

Kari is good but can be solved when the defensemen completely abandon the system. And shots are necessary to produce offense.

Allow me to rant here
What is it with the “oh damn…they allowed a goal. I guess we’re going to lose” attitude lately? Are you freaking kidding me? Games are 60, NOT 20, 60 minutes for a reason.
It’s one god damn goal. ONE. Can you do math? ONE. That’s only one higher than zero. How many periods are there in a hockey game? Oh what’s that? There’s three? Oh…and how many have we played? ONE! THAT MEANS THERE’S TWO MORE!
I have held it in for a couple weeks now, but I am sick and tired of that attidue from some people here. Give me a break.
/end rant

I've already stated my point
It annoys the living hell out of me when people go “oh damn. game’s over” with 40 minutes to go in the game. Or any sport for that matter.
I didn’t want to blatantly call anybody out on this, but it’s gotten to a point where coming here is unbearable.
by DFWTrojanTuba on Jan 20, 2012 8:23 PM CST up reply actions
How do you KNOW we're not going to score?
How? Answer me that.
by DFWTrojanTuba on Jan 20, 2012 8:25 PM CST up reply actions
I don't KNOW
I’m just skeptical given the quality of play, or lack thereof, lately.
And that's fine to be skeptical
But to blatantly write “they won’t score” is ridiculous.
by DFWTrojanTuba on Jan 20, 2012 8:29 PM CST up reply actions
Didn't say you could. But seeing your goalie stand on his head...
keeping you in the game should be motivation to shoot more and generate scoring chances. It’s not like this team has no emotion.
I remember games where the Stars lost even when they outshot the opponent by nearly the same margin.
Shots on goal mean nothing. It’s the shots that go into the goal that count.

is it a terrible idea to throw three guys with chemistry onto the top line, like morrow, ott and loui for example? then reunite that effective nystrom/fiddler/dvorak grinding line and maybe give them second line minutes.
obviously the remaining two lines would be pretty garbage but at least that will put some stuff that has generated some semblance of offense back into the lineup and put guys back with ones they had chemistry with.

but then we’ll just lose a lot of 5-4 games
by Travis Drybread on Jan 20, 2012 9:49 PM CST up reply actions
i'm serious
if the stars are going to be this bad this season, may as well sell off big club assets at positions where you have guys coming up in the minors and go into full rebuild mode
and kari is their most valuable piece, could easily bring a guy that would make a benn centered line as offensively talented as chicago’s top line. hell if kari’s tenure here allows a non contending team to turn ivan vishnevskiy into a top line player, then thats a win
big mistake last year was misjudging where they were on the win curve
making moves like a contender when they weren’t one (overpaying for goligoski like he was the final piece to make a run, not moving b richards at the deadline)
i’m not saying they tank, but rather sell off guys who will be out of their prime before they are ready to win again.
maybe this way they can build a really good team around the talented players, instead of having 6-12 good players and 6-12 more “just a guy’s” that you overpay in order to reach the cap floor
Do you remember our situation last year?
by DFWTrojanTuba on Jan 20, 2012 10:02 PM CST up reply actions
yes
fast start where they lead the pacific division at the halfway point, then an injury decimated roster playing .500 with benner and lehtonen getting every start and 982735982367923586245786239 minutes a night respectively trying to keep pace, and eventually wearing down because there were no guys that could give the team quality minutes when richards was concussed

Was boarding/cross checking
A classic “impact was really bad but the hit itself wasn’t terrible.”
That hit can break necks, which is why the result is what’s punishable and not the original hit. If you’re gonna hit a vulnerable guy in that area, you have to be sure he’s ready for it.

I don’t think the Stars have made the playoffs since DBD was founded :-)
It’s all Worley’s fault. - Tsudbury
F bombs from Fiddler
They will always call the broken stick. That was kind of bad luck in that the stick broke not because of Fiddler’s impact, but I also understand why it got called. Good luck picking that up live speed.

Welcome
Offense is struggling. Bad defensive breakdowns have led to their goals.

Cool
I’ve been lurking for a long time. I’ll comment every once in a long while. Not knowledgeable enough about the game to contribute.

Best response.
Not mad at any one thing (aside from not winning). Just frustrated.
Well, they did start off a little slow in this game

another 1 goal lost. Very tired of losing.

Minny tomorrow night. I think we’re still 2 points out of 8th. Of course we’ll bring the best out of Minny
It was last season.
We lost to them and missed the playoffs.

Yes, it was last season, if you're talking about the game that cost us a playoff spot

Pathetic.
We’re a bad team. We’re not making the playoffs. But hey, I got the whole driveway shoveled.

We're a threatless bunch without Benn and Ribeiro.
Ryder loses all his luster when there’s no one out there to pass him the puck.

Travis – other teams know this and just swarm Loui. We have no one else to pick up the scoring.

goodnight everyone, till we meet again.
We're slipping from being trade deadline buyers to being trade deadline sellers very quickly.

No.
Robidas, Grossman, Souray.
We don’t have the forward depth to deal forwards.
by Travis Drybread on Jan 20, 2012 10:20 PM CST up reply actions
Contenders will be interested in those guys.
Even if they’re just solidifying their third pair with Grossman.
We deal them off for some picks/prospects and build this team up in the offseason.
In addition, I am still hopeful that we can use some of our current picks/prospects to land a big(ish) name player and virtually restock them with the spoils from the D-men we ship to contenders. In a perfect world…

There's the stat right there.
1.8 Goals Against is FANTASTIC.
1.0 Goals For is PATHETIC.
We need a sniper. Even with Benn and Ribeiro back.
