What about Brayden Schenn?

Spector points out that he may be available because of Sean Coutourier's play and they need a large defenseman to replace Pronger. We have a log jam of defenseman so why not ship someone like Souray or Grossman plus a second round pick and something else ( mid level prospect or pick) for Schenn?

Star-divide

Hes a young center, he played great with Glennie with the Wheat Kings, and is an exciting young player. I think we have enough defense coming through the ranks to fill the gap created by losing Grossman or Souray, and we desperately need young talent up the middle. What do you think?

Same here.

I’d like to have Schenn here.

Would be nice.

I think Joe would like him too. =)

Trevor Daley is my cup of tea.

I would love Schenn

Now to play Devil’s advocate (sorry :P). How available is he REALLY? I was shocked when he was traded from LA and would be even more shocked if he was traded a second time in his young career. Especially when Philly could have a Coutourier-Schenn 1-2 punch with Giroux on one of their wings. More importantly though, why would Philly trade for Gross and some picks when they could get a guy like Luke Schenn or Tim Gleason or even take a run at Suter or Weber?

Alright, that’s the end of devil’s advocate. I do think Braydon would look great in Green and Gold.

Do we really have a log jam on defense? Otherwise I would most likely pull the trigger on it, though I don’t think Philly would do it.

oleksiak for schenn?

seems fair for both sides

Something Clever.

by AA6 on Jan 16, 2012 5:36 PM CST reply actions

Philly is probably looking more for a win now kind of trade, although value seems fair.

by KBreezy on Jan 16, 2012 6:18 PM CST up reply actions

You have to be kidding!

Olesiak is a freak. In 2 years you will be in love with him when he plays on the big squad.

by deerslayertx on Jan 17, 2012 10:15 AM CST up reply actions

Schenn is one of the top 4 or 5 prospects in hockey

Oleksiak is probably not enough if they were looking for a prospect.

No way

Oleksiak is a keeper. Not that I don’t want Schenn… but Oleksiak is a steep price.

with as fast as he's developing too....

it’s not out of the realm of possibility to see him play his first NHL game next season, if there’s injuries.

Not a steep price for Schenn

Oleksiak has a ton of potential, but he still has to reach it. As much as looks it, he isn’t a mean Hatcher or Chara. He doesn’t dominate opponents with his size and didn’t solidify himself as a go to guy on Team Canada’s junior team when they faced injuries. He has the potential, but having it and reaching it are two very different things.

Schenn on the other hand is an animal. He might not have hands of Datsyuk, but he has more aggression and drive than a young Morrow and just as much finish as Benn. He basically led Team Canada on one leg during last year’s tournament and has dominated at every level he’s played (save for the AHL, but he hasn’t exactly played much down there yet).

Oleksiak can be great, but has question marks. Schenn will be a dominating power forward who is naturally a C. I would make that trade in a heartbeat. Not to mention, could you imagine if he brought Glennie back to his scoring ways? Benn-Schenn-Glennie. Just saying.

This would be a lovely long term scenario.

but we need to know what it’ll take to get Schenn. I’m guessing a lot. Not as much as Parise, but close. He’s going to be great.

by Travis Drybread on Jan 17, 2012 4:07 PM CST up reply actions

Realistically

as much as we love our visions of Oleksiak dominating the blue line in Dallas, Philadelphia would hold out for something to sweeten the deal. Schenn was rated the #1 player not in the NHL 2 years ago. Pulling off a trade like this will hurt. Hurt more than not doing the trade… I don’t know.

by denniso on Jan 17, 2012 1:00 PM CST up reply actions

No, i'm not kidding

Schenn was/is considered the best prospect not playing in the NHL. “bluechip” if you will. and the trickle down effect is if he makes a former first rounder into a dynamic duo, i think you can live with Vance, Nemeth, and Klingberg patrolling the blue line. Be rational.

Something Clever.

Hell yeah on having Schenn, i commented about it last night on another post about getting schenn over to maybe get glennie to fire.

by Chris Lca Williams on Jan 16, 2012 9:49 PM CST reply actions

Pardy for Schenn?

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Philly might have to throw in a mid-round draft pick to sweeten the deal though.

by imacdane on Jan 17, 2012 10:47 AM CST reply actions

Already

been rumors for quite awhile about Philly having their eye on Grossman.

Pardy is untradeable. I mean, who in their right mind would take him? Philly is looking to shore up their D, not get worse while giving up a good young player. Nobody would claim Pardy off waivers.

by StarzenheimerSchmidt on Jan 17, 2012 11:02 AM CST reply actions

where are the rumors on them wanting grossman?

I think I might want to hang on to Stransky though… he’s starting to move up.

by Tsudbury on Jan 17, 2012 3:25 PM CST up reply actions

Not likely..

Look- while it’s nice to dream about the “what ifs” of the trade deadline, I really don’t think this is anything other than a Hoop Dream, an E5 rumor, or something written by Bruce Garrioch. In other words, it won’t happen. Not even worth discussing.

Philadelphia JUST acquired Schenn in a deal that sent their pivotal heart and soul star player, Mike Richards, the other way to LA. Unless they have buyers remorse, or were expecting Schenn to be capable of putting up big numbers right away, they probably were assuming he’d be a player for them in the not-too-distant, to long term future.

If we were to trade for Schenn, it’d probably be another package deal (both ways) and they’d want a significant return. Schenn is still widely ranked as a top 5 prospect in many scouting lists.

It’s too soon!

by Chris Barnard on Jan 19, 2012 12:44 AM CST reply actions

you're probably right.

It was a nice thought though. Gotta get out of that NHL 12 mentality.

by Travis Drybread on Jan 19, 2012 10:41 AM CST up reply actions

I haven't played NHL 12...

I got so tired of the NHL series. The commentators are AWFUL and the improvements year to year are so minimal. What’s more- they’ve made it very difficult for people to make rosters and add-ons because of the trophies. I downloaded some great rosters online (not EA’s rosters) for NHL 09, but the game kept crashing in my first offseason. Then this year, they announce goalie fights and broken glass as key improvements.

Goalies shouldn’t fight. It’s a bad add-on because if it happens more than say- once a year, its ridiculous.

Then the glass breaks. Great. But in shards? Really? Have they ever seen glass break? It’s safety glass. It breaks in fragments or pebbles. Not in big shards like a window would.

My dream team would be a combination of Razor, Hughson, and MacGuire as commentators. That’d be great. Or even if they had options for changing the teams up. That’d be cool. Make drafting and offseason better. Basically make it Maddenized, but add in a sports center clip or two here and there, just like they do in Fight Night Champion Mode. Little add-ins go a long way to enriching the longevity and replay-ability of a game for gamers.

by Chris Barnard on Jan 21, 2012 3:10 PM CST reply actions

Turn the commentary off and use your own music

You’ll be pleased with NHL 12 after you fix those two problems. :P There really are a ton of little fixes and additions, including fighting for space in front of the net…although it’s not perfect. They’ve also fixed a lot of the “cheap” moves that used to work, and the online modes are more fun.

Razor did the color commentary for NHL 98 and 99 and they were both brilliant, of course.

Biggest problem with the game at this point is that you can play the same style against every team for the most part, and it almost always works. That and if you’re playing “Be A pro” and you’re a defender or goalie, you notice the AI screwups a lot more.

Still…great game and well worth the price of admission. If nothing else, it’s cathartic to check a few guys into their own bench after a Stars’ loss.
