I had just turned on NHL Network when they announced it.
Not too much of a surprise that they traded him after his comments, but the way they did it….

So much as he was misquoted via translation to French and then back into English. Because it’s really smart to use a translated French article on your English-language website, TSN, when the original interview was given in English.

The emotion behind what he was saying was still true, however.
It’s sad, because he’s one of the few on that team that did a lot of good for the city and his team. I know the overall numbers aren’t great, but that whole team had been hellaciously bad.

call them divisions, and have 2 per conference.
Division leaders get home ice through playoffs. Next 6 of 13 make the playoffs, and you can seed as close to division matchups as possible.

You'd be surprised, actually
I can always pick apart one call or two a game, but overall I’m usually pretty meh or favorable to them.
Of course, lately they’ve been going DCS (don’t call… stuff) in games throughout the league, and nothing makes me crazier because it just encourages all the hooking and holding and cheating they try to get out. But that’s not an individual ref thing and something they have to be hearing as a group.

No. 13 – Dan O’Halloran – Reffed last year’s Stanley Cup Finals and general considered one of the better refs on the league, but can be erratic, particularly on safety calls. Slightly below average skater with average positioning and a moderate overall call level. Rotates fairly evenly throughout the league. Some control calls early, definitely will not swallow in the third, and some tilt towards home and trailing team. Moderate safety call level, but again, can be erratic.Veteran ref who called his first NHL game in 1995 and makes deep playoff runs.
No. 14 – Dennis LaRue – One of the most veteran refs wih the league. Called his first game in 1991 and has done more than 50 playoff games, including one Stanley Cup Finals. Poor skater and poor positioning – definitely comes from the old school of refs where this was not nearly as important. Will let a lot of things go with a very loose level, but is one of the "authoritarian" refs in the vein of Van Massenhoven who does not tolerate back talk and does not care for either extracurricular shoving or yapping. Heavily assigned to the Northwest Division generally. No early control calls which goes with the overall loose level, and is also loose on safety calls. Some tendencies towards a home-team tilt, and will definitely swallow in the third and call more for the trailing team.

Only that he’s not as bad as people want to make him out to be. He has some positives at some times, but is not nearly consistent enough with them.

One of the little things I love about hockey
is when Jamie Benn skates around with the puck with two defenders on his back
oh look, several dump ins on the power play.
instead of entering the zone like normal.

I can see that
Ott will fight when he throws a questionable hit though (see: Lander, Anton). He just doesn’t let himself get goaded into any fights for the general antics, which is smart and infuriating.
The difference with Brown, at least with me, is the outright dives.

The idea is to discourage the PWS by making it a shorthanded situation
They think it’s more of a deterrent if you risk putting your team shorthanded rather than just go to 4-on-4.

I like Morrow.
He seems like a good dude and hes done some good things for this franchise.

Morrow is incredibly important to this team and his success is contingent on the success of the Stars.
he’s struggled and we are going to point that out. don’t confuse that with us being in the same “Morrow sucks and should be traded crowd.”

Here's the thing though
He’s never been good defensively, and he’s not any worse this year (save the 3-4 weeks he couldn’t move with that back injury) than before.
So to harp on him this year seems odd because he’s not any different a player than he ever was.
And saying “he’s stunk for 75 percent of the season” is close enough to saying he sucks, particularly given what we know about his injury status now.

If he's too injured to play then you're levelling a criticism at Gulutzan.
He clearly wasn’t playing his game so he needed to be told to sit or have his ice time reduced. He’s been hurting the team. The second line was just about useless for a month.
He’s never been good defensively, but people still believe he is.

I never believed he was.
Other than a hard hitter and a good board man I don’t know who would believe that if they’ve watched him. And the injury thing? That’s every sport ever. Players hide injuries more than they should, even the best do.

He was, for a stretch of about six weeks, the Stars worst forward. He and the second line were killing the Stars defensively to the point that their meager offensive contributions were overshadowed by the number of quality chances they gave up..

I see more negativity aimed at Morrow, it seems to me, than aimed at other people who are far worse.
I guess I see things differently. I’m not attached to Morrow, but there seems to be a lot of focus on him and he’s not a “skill” captain like other teams have.

Borderline boarding. It’s a clean hit and wasn’t really toward the boards, but he did end up spinning into them. Boarding, as I said, is all about the result and not the hit, and that was a nasty result.

Ah couldn't remember...
I remembered at one point they credited the clincher with the goal, but couldn’t remember if it got offically added to the ledger.

He gets credited as scoring the game winning goal, but it doesn't get added to the total number of goals scored

The kid isnt showing the potential Benn did, but he’s a goal scoring.machine.
Benn’s numbers after being drafted were unreal. He was the best player in the CHL for two seasons.

3-4 guys always seem to come for blood and he always fends them off with his brute strength and crazy-eyes while his team mates come to his aid. The guy can flat play hockey in every facet.
