I'd like to do something for the Skrastins family... (Updated by B. Worley)

[Editor's Note: Thanks to some great ideas by you guys and awesome initiative by Trevor, DBD is going to be heading up this project. We'll have much more details early next week)

The Dallas Morning News has an article out that talks a little bit more about the players reactions to the accident that happened on Wednesday. Here's the link.

The thing that caught my eye about it was the fact that Karlis' wife and 2 (soon to be 3) children are going to be returning to Dallas.  I'm not sure if they mean temporarily, or if they will be staying in Dallas for a while, but they will be returning nonetheless.

I thought maybe if we put our heads together, we could come up with something to show our continuing support for the family.  Obviously, first and foremost, I know the Dallas Stars are working on putting something together.  I fully plan on contributing to that, whatever it is.

But I was wondering if the DBD community could throw something together as well.  Maybe it's just me, but I feel like we're a pretty close knit community (about as close as you can get with online blogs, anyhow), and would love for us to do something as a group.  I have no idea what we could do... heck, I'm still in disbelief about the whole thing...  But if you guys have any ideas, post them below, and we can roll with it.

Now, there's a valid argument that I heard over at LSB when Shanon passed away earlier this year.  That doing something as a group instead of contributing to the Team's fund can be viewed as just an opportunity to push our name out there.  While I understand that train of thought, I disagree with it for 2 reasons: First, I still plan on contributing to whatever the Stars put together (I'm assuming it's some kind of memorial fund).  Second, I think of our own contribution in the sense that if one of your relatives passes you get different cards from different friends. Heck, some friends don't get you a card at all, they bring over a 12 pack of beer and sit shivah with you. Everyone contributes in their own way.

So, if we were to do something as a group, what do you guys think we should do?

(UPDATE):  It seems like compiling a fanbook is the general agreement amongst those of us who would like to do something.  We'll have to figure out how we want to accomplish it (who will assemble it, design it to make it look all pretty, hand-written letters/e-mail, etc.).  I'm not really that great at any of those things, so if someone wants to take charge of this, please do!  And if there's any ideas that you think should be added in or tuned slightly, let us know!

In the mean time, we can all start writing up what we'd like to say.  I know it will probably take me a while to put it into words...
