Video: Stars Honor Karlis Skrastins With Tribute, Moment Of Silence
The Dallas Stars honored defenseman Karlis Skrastins with a video tribute and a moment of silence on Thursday night before the first home preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche. Also honored were former Colorado Avalanche Wade Belak and Ruslan Salei, both of whom passed this summer as well.
Someone (Jenn9772) took a good video of the proceedings on Thursday night and YouTubed it. I thought you might want to see what they did if you weren't there...

Please recall that we are gathering hand written notes of condolence and whatever else you may wish to express to the Skrastins family for a book that we intend to give them. You can find more info here, including which games we'll be available for collection. Please contact Taylor Baird if you have any further questions or comments. Her contact information is at the Karlis Skrastins Memorial Fan Project main page.

If you want to see the really awful video I took with my phone
which really only serves to highlight the attendance issue on Thursday, go to http://www.youtube.com/defendingbigd
the attendance was horrible..
but I’m not THAT concerned…YET. It was a Thursday night preseason game against one of the worst performing teams of the Western conference. Obviously preseason games are almost always bought by full season ticket holders as part of their package, very few if anyone will spend individual game ticket money for a preseason game. I hope that tonight’s crowd will be slightly larger since it is a Saturday but still would expect a less then half full arena.

That was me!
That shot the video that is. I really hope they do something at the home opener to honor him as well.
I hope so. I missed Thursday's game for reasons beyond my control
Plus, with the home opener being Friday night, more people would be there regardless.
Thanks for capturing this. Has me reaching for the tissues.

Better. Seems like it was just a bug (albeit a messy one to clean up after)
Friday, I got some takeout from Outback and he wanted me to share with him (he loves Bloomin’ Onions, even though onions are not supposed to be good for dogs). Thursday, he wouldn’t even touch his food.
Now, I’m the one laid up – I fell down a step on my front sidewalk this afternoon and twisted my ankle. X-rays show it isn’t broken, but it is badly swollen and I’m supposed to keep weight off it for a couple of weeks at least. I wasn’t going to be going to tonight’s game anyway – I was supposed to be at church singing (and playing) with the choir tonight. But instead of being at church, I’m on the couch with my foot propped up on pillows.

I should mention, that although generally healthy, he is 11 1/2
Him getting sick is a bit different than if my 3 1/2 year old Sheltie were to get sick.

With all of the Modano stuff the past couple of days
I’m sure there will be more people in attendance.

Random Question
I just saw on twitter TSNBobMckenzie saying that Godard had been put on waivers. Does that mean that we are sending him down and replacing him with someone from the AHL?
I would assume so too...
But there are a couple of other young forwards who haven’t been sent back to the Texas Stars yet like Matt Fraser and Colton Sceviour. Though putting Godard on waivers seems to suggest that at least one of them will be playing in Dallas this season… One NHL roster spot up for grabs!
Great video.
And perfect song for the moment.
Good times are here and Stars will take what belongs to them. Sooner or Later.
as a huge Karlis fan and supporter.. I would love to see this at the home opener. but at the same time, it would have to be before the guys ever got on the ice, having to see it must break their hearts.
Kari was clearly crying
I sit behind the defensive goal and Kari was obviously emotional when he got back to his net. They played it right before the National Anthem.
