Dallas Stars Featured on Versus Seven Times in 2011-2012

The NHL released it's national television broadcast schedule today and the Dallas Stars appear a total of seven times on Versus (soon to be re-branded the NBC Sports Network after the first of the year) and make one appearance on NHL Network that those living outside the Stars home broadcast area will be interested in.

The number seven is curious because they were featured on Versus only three times all of last season. That's quite an increase, presumably owing to the fact that NBC's new contract with the league features a greater number of games on Mondays and Tuesdays. The local tv schedule should be out sometime in the next few weeks, though with all games in HD now, the number of TXA-21appearances is the only mystery remaining.

This also explains a few of the time changes announced this week, as was suspected...

Date Game Time Network
Dec. 19 Anaheim at Dallas 7:00 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)
Dec. 21 Philadelphia at Dallas 6:30 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)/TSN2
Dec. 26 St. Louis at Dallas 6:30 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)
Jan. 3 Detroit at Dallas 7:00 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)
Jan. 14 Colorado at Dallas 2:00 p.m. NHL Network
Jan. 16 Dallas at St. Louis 6:30 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)/TSN2
Feb. 16 Calgary at Dallas 7:30 p.m. TSN
Feb. 21 Dallas at Montreal 6:30 p.m. RDS
Feb. 29 Pittsburgh at Dallas 6:30 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)/TSN2
Mar. 2 Dallas at Edmonton 8:30 p.m. TSN
Mar. 20 Phoenix at Dallas 7:00 p.m. Versus (NBC Sports Network)/TSN2
Mar. 30 Dallas at Vancouver 9:00 p.m. TSN

They'll be on nationally in Canada eight times, helping the hockey community's edification where the greatness of one Mr. Jamie Benn is concerned.

The real question this raises is... Can Stars fans cope without Ralph and Razor seven times??

Versus likes to have Razor on from time to time anyway..

Plus I’d rather watch a Stars game without Ralph and Razor then have to miss seeing it on TV altogether which happened all too often last season.

That's really shocking to me that they get 7 VS games

I only saw 3 possible Monday or Tuesday games yesterday, but i didn’t look at Wednesday games. I certainly didn’t see them getting 2 games against STL and 1 against PHX. But one thing NBC sports might be doing is using VS to get more west teams on and use a team like Dallas who was close last year and put them on tv kinda like the NFL does with teams after they have a good year.

There were not ebough last year

I live in North Carolina now and one of the 3 that they picked up on national TV was one of the 2 I would have had locally in Carolina anyway. I was pissed. I am happy to see that Versus picked up so many and also, it is usually easy to find live streams on-line of the Canadian broadcasts so it’s good that there are a bunch of those. I am also pumped that none of the national broadcasts are against Carolina.

There are some not so legal options...

If you live away from the Texas area, then there is always NHL Gamecenter.

Since I'm in Virginia now

Is Gamecenter worth it? I was thinking about subscribing just to watch the Stars, but if it sucks…

If you have a good internet speed, i think it's definitely worth it.

Games on TXA21

Means I won’t see them in Austin on Time Warner. Debating the NHL Center Ice, curious if anyone has any experience with that package..

by pbatx on Aug 18, 2011 7:58 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

Unfortunately that's not an option

The NHL blacks out the games on center ice if you are in the state of Texas, even if the game is not available where you live. I tried to get it last year because I only get FSN Houston at school, rather SW, but I was told by NHL gamecenter support that the Stars games would still be blacked out for me.

I had the same problem when I lived in Northeastern Arkansas.

Except they didn’t warn me. They just took my money. And then gave me a partial refund.

Had Center Ice several years ago.

There were some blackout issues when games were on FoxSW, and of course in Austin we would get the Spurs game more often than not. However, I was able to watch all the games broadcast on My27, again this was a few years back. Since getting DirectTV, I get all the Fox SW channels, so I don’t have the problem of only getting the Houston or San Antonio feeds, and I haven’t covinced the wife 10-15 Stars’ games is worth dropping $160 on Center Ice, plus a lot of the games on TXA21 are on Saturdays and we’re at the Tx Stars’ game anyway. Her letting me get season tickets to the Texas Stars keeps me from comlaining much about not having Center Ice.

Slight correction,

Center Ice would show the same game as My27 back then, but 95% of the time, it was the other team’s announcers, so watching those games could be anywhere from annoying to downright brutal.

i really hate the anouncers for these games

but atleast people will see we arn’t some dead last team

its a crap shoot on versus

sometimes you’ll get decent announcers that just don’t know the teams well. other times there just flat out bad, versus likes razor though so I’m interested in who will be calling the games.

dumping my local cable comany....

I am looking at Dish & Direct…. Living in northern Arkansas I never know if I will get to see the Stars or not…. sometimes we get FSSW, sometimes we get Fox Sports South…. So I’m curious as to which satellite company would be the best option for me, hockey wise, especially with the Stars… Anyone seem to have better luck catching games with one or the other company? Sounds odd I know but I need to dump this local company anyway, I need to make sure I make the best choice!

by starsgirl89 on Aug 20, 2011 5:18 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

I had issues with dish getting the sports packages that I wanted.

It depends a lot on how much you’re willing to shell out for packages too. You’ll have to call the Dish or Directv people and talk to them about the FS-Channels. Based on your zipcode, they should be able to tell you which one you’ll get. If you get FSSW, you’ll get those games, but you won’t be eligible for CenterIce or GameCenter. You can also look around on the NHL gamecenter website, or give them an e-mail for a map of the broadcasting restrictions.

I just posted this a couple other times elsewhere, so sorry if I’m being repetitive to anyone, but I don’t want someone to get screwed over like I did… I was living in Searcy, AR and we didn’t get FSSW there, but we were still in its market. I bought GameCenter, but every game was blacked out. Then they told me they could only give me a partial refund.

Whatever your option, you have plenty of time before the season starts to figure out what network you’re in, and what you want to do from there. (And also, if you decide to get directv, shoot me an e-mail at tsudbury@gmail.com, and i can give you a referral number. Then we each get $100 added to our accounts. I’m not afraid to sell me e-mail to people on a blog if it means I get a hundred bucks lol.)

I also meant to say that dish and dirctv have options for you to get all FS channels

But i think the major league games (MLB, NHL, etc.) are blacked out from those channels if your OUT of that FS-Channel’s network, because if it’s out of network, CenterIce owns the rights, and blacks it out from you.

Confused yet? :-)

sorry it took so long to get back...

College has flooded me. Anyways… Wow… Sounds like this is gonna be a pain… I’m in Mountain View Arkansas, about 2 hours from Searcy, so I’m kinda shocked you didn’t get FSSW there….. Usually we get it, unless the Memphis Grizzlies are playing, then we mysteriously become FSS… Which often coincides with Stars games unfortunately for me….. Money wise, as long as they give me FSSW & Versus, I will live. Paying for college kinda kills my dream of a possible NHL package if some sort…. Currently I don’t even have Versus, which killed me during playoffs (if the Stars had made it I would have been living at my Uncle’s house) so just being guaranteed FSSW & Versus helps me a lot…. Last year there was some issue with Dish & Fox sports, if memory serves me… So I’m now nervous of Dish…. Gr! Who would think TV would be so complicated…..
