Cap Speculation
The Cap is said to have a floor of $48 million and a high of $65 mil. With this said, what the Stars currently have signed for the next year equates to roughly 37 million. Minus the Sean Avery shenanigans, that is a little over 9 million that needs to be spent new blood and keeping some of the old guys just to meet the minimum requirements. Beyond that and what the budget will be, there is 17 million more dollars up in the air that could be spent until the max is reached.
The 7 men the Stars have on impending UFA (not including Brad Richards) have a combined cap hit of $7,696,500. If the GM decides to sign all of them back, I suspect the Stars may barely make cap with a few bumps in pay for a few of the guys. If the Stars, however, do not resign everyone, there will be room for the a few UFA guys or trades to occur in order to make the floor.
The question is, who would you resign if you were in a position of power? And who would you look into trading for? You have to $9,328,333 to play with on Capgeek. Go nuts.
