Bob Mackenzie said via twitter that "With the ownership situation in DAL not likely to be settled until later in the summer, DAL will not be making contract offer to Brad Richards",

next tweet "DAL would be interested in trading exclusive neg rights before July 1, but move would require Richards to waive his NMC. No guarantees"

If this report is true then the Stars are going to have to do a major overhaul to make the playoffs next year, and I'm guessing that they will be moving Jamie Benn over to center for next year.

who in the hell would trade for him right now? in less than 30 days he goes free agent, no gm in their right mind is going to trade for him unless they get a 100% commitment from him and that wont happen.

Calgary traded for Bouwmeester to get a deal done before he hit free agency, I could see someone trying to get the jump on him before everyone else got a shot. Sucks that he’s going to be leaving though.

I could be wrong

but the Flyers acquired Kimmo Timmonen just before free agency opened a few years ago. If I’m remembering correctly, they sent a 1st rounder and other picks/prospects to Nashville. Of course, the team acquiring Richie will want to get him signed before the trade is complete. It’s definitely doable though. Plus, the rumor about the Leafs offering the max will motivate teams like the NYR to make this happen now.
