Nicklas Grossman Out 'A Bit' With Sprained MCL
Bob Sturm, he of Bob and Dan fame on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket just indicated on the air that he's heard that Nicklas Grossman has a sprained MCL and that he could miss the remainder of the regular season.
This is not information that we have seen or heard previously anywhere else so we're going to take it with a grain of salt for the moment as it's possible that Bob jumped the gun on releasing this kind of thing...? The DMN and ESPN Dallas are likely talking to Marc Crawford as I type this and could have more official word soon.
Grossman went through some tests yesterday including an MRI and evidently there may have been fears that he tore his MCL and/or ACL but according to The Ticket that is not the case.
That's bad news for the Stars who desperately need to win the majority of their remaining games to ensure playoff games for Grossman to get back into, but good (bordering on great) news for next season as a tear could have derailed Nick Grossman's 2011-2012 season as well.
Meanwhile he also had word on Skrastins laceration that sounded gruesome, though Marc Crawford wouldn't rule Karlis out for tomorrow's game yesterday. It's likely that both Fistric and Lukowich play in his stead. Brad Lukowich did clear re-entry waivers and practiced with the team today.
We're still waiting for a Loui Eriksson update. Stay tuned.
Update: Per @andrewsdsp:
Nicklas Grossman has a knee sprain (MCL) and will be "out a bit," according to Stars coach Marc Crawford.
So it's true. What bad luck for the big Swede who had missed 11 games recently with a hip injury but played very well since coming back. Now they'll have to get the job done without him. It is a fairly severe blow.

This sucks. The Stars need Nick. On a different topic, should we start a campaign to put a visor on Benn?
That injury to Malhotra is brutal. Maybe we should tweet Brad and Barch and ask them to convince Jamie to put his visor on…
Thanks for the clarity, Crawford.
You see, when I say “a bit” I usually mean ten to fifteen minutes, depending on traffic and whether I need to go to the bathroom. Crawford seems to use it here to say “It’ll be a long time, but I’m gonna be vague because it’d take too much effort for me to actually stick my hand in everyones chest and rip out their heart.”

With a sprained MCL
I would think 2-3 weeks would be a minimum. I’ll do some research on similar injuries, but there’s no way to know the severity of it.
Anyone know a doctor?
The internet is unreliable. Depending on what grade it is it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months, evidently.

Usually the MCL injury isn't as bad an ACL injury
I doubt we see him the rest of the season, and just hope it’s just an MCL injury and nothing worse

Not sure a doctor would help...
… unless he takes a look at it himself :)
I’ve sprained and handful of things myself and you just never know. Sometimes it seems like just a few days, others it lingers for way too long. I guess that’s why the word “bit” was used, because no one really knows
In other news...
Patrick Sharp is out 2-3 weeks
Justin Williams done for season with dislocated shoulder
so that should hinder the Hawks/Kings a “bit”.

With respect to Grossman and what he means to the defense...
…the Hawks losing Sharp is a bigger blow to Chicago.
And I suppose you could make the case that Justin Williams means more to the Kings than Grossman means to the Stars.

I love Justin Williams
well…I love his game. Every time the Stars play the Kings I end up thinking he’s the best player on the ice and so important to what they do. More so than the overrated raccoon looking dude.

Ya, I'm definitely not discounting the loss of Grossman.
but Chicago/LA lost some firepower

I still think Chicago may be the team that falls behind in this race.
We shall see.

Ya. With their difficult remaining schedule and now no Sharp....
gonna be tough for them.

That knot in my stomach is giving birth to twins lately....
This is one of those, we weren’t supposed to be in it, seasons; but I can’t help playoff fever. My wife said that my April- June celibacy is getting a head start this year. God, can we just win the next five in a row so I can stop checking every detail of every other game every damn night?!!? Ay Caramba!
on a lighter note, Fistric has been solid, Lukowich is an unknown.
Do we still have Larsen? He was up for a cup of coffee and a few games in January. Don’t really know if he was effective, but he didn’t make me remember painful turnovers like Nisky used to!
The Stars need a big, defensive defenseman to replace Skrastins and Fistric.
Not every one of your defensemen can by small-ish, offensive defensemen. There needs to be a balance.

We know Lukowich
He’s played 224 games for the Stars and was on the roster with the 99 team. Although he didnt play enough games to get his name on the cup.
any serviceable Dmen out of the league waiting for the phone to ring?
Lukowich has been around a long time, but I don’t have a clue if he will be all that helpful. I know he has a history of bouncing from AHL to NHL to AHL over the last decade, but is there anyone out there we know is a good Dman waiting for the phone to ring? At least Gogo is tied for third in the league for +/-! Where is Kim Johnsson now? ugh.
Any Burish news?
He’d be a big boost to the squad.

Yesh....I take an extended weekend
And things are looking difficult. Grossman, Burish both no timetable?? Yuck. Well just have to make it happen. I think the team needs to bulk up defensive depth for next season
Lukowich at least brings a veteran presence back to the lineup which is good
A MCL strain is much better than the ACL tear which is what I heard it probably was on Saturday. Not good but he should at least be ready for next season on time.
on hiatus until further notice or the Stars clinch a playoff spot
