Stars prospect Reilly Smith had another great night last night, scoring another goal in the Miami Redhawks 4 - 1 victory in the second round of the CCHA playoffs over U of Alaska. Smith is also one of three nominees for the CCHA Best Defensive Forward Award, which will be presented on March 17, at the CCHA Awards Banquet before the Conference Finals in Detroit. Smith finished the regular season third in scoring on the Redhawks to Andy Miele (leading scorer in the NCAA - not just the CCHA) and Carter Camper. Smith is the only sophomore up for this honor. The other two candidates are both seniors, Carl Hagelin, University of Michigan and Will Acton, Lake Superior State. It's kind of a long shot for him to win this as a sophomore but it's an amazing honor just to be nominated. Smith was also selected to the CCHA All Conference 1st Team - one of only two sophomores to receive this honor.
CBS College Sports and ESPN U usually cover many of the conference finals so if you have a chance to catch a Miami Redhawks game, you should check out #18. Dallas Stars prospect Curtis McKenzie is Smith's teammate and wears #16. You can also follow them on Twitter at @muckbro16 and @muckbro18.
