from one perspective...
The media as a whole had us as deadline sellers. When this ultimately did not materialize….by default Joe becomes a “loser”. Obviously anyone who is reading these words looks a bit deeper into the situation and trusts Joe knows a good bit we don’t.
As a hardcore fan we have a different understanding of what it means to “win” or “lose” at a trade deadline. Sure, my gut feeling is that we can probably make the playoffs with Brad but not without him. However to my mind, winning would means getting the franchise sold to someone who will put in the dollars to make the Stars great and keep his mouth shut while trusting JOE to do his job. Long-term this is the only way out for us…Joe knows this and will move in this direction regardless of what the “esteemed sports media” at Yahoo has to say about whether or not we traded an injured rental player who has a NTC and who personally would be best off to try out the FA market than sign an extension that would be demanded for getting anything significant in trade.
The trade for GoGo has in short hindsight thus far proven especially good when you consider we freed up 2.5 in cap space for next season. We got much stronger in a weak area while only weaking ourselves a little in a strong area. It was a good move regardless of deadline timing. I wish we could have made such a trade a month earlier.
Overall as a GM I give Joe and A rather than an A +. (Cause we should have drafted Fowler, but Cambell sounded good at the time.)
