NHL Draft Watch 2012: Sami Salminen

Sami Salminen - 6"5 201lbs plays for Jokerit U20 in finland. In the last 16 games he has 25 points (9 goals, 16 assists)

I found him when I was drifting through some of the european prospects. I found it quite surprising that he was near the bottom of the rankings for finnish skaters considering his stats. The main criticism appears to be that he is a slow skater, though this is something that can be built upon. His size is one reason why I think that he could be on our scouts rader and also his goal scoring ability. He appears to be a crash the net style forward and with his size I'm sure he would fit the 'hard to play against' mantra that the Stars are now going for. At the moment looking at several draft rankings that I have seen he is nowhere in the Top 100 of many scouting services. I personally think that he has the potential to be a diamond in the rough and could be a 4th rounder/5th rounder who could develop into a good offensive forward if he can work on his skating ability. From what I've found so far on this guy I think he would fit well in a Stars uniform at some point in the future.
