Dallas Stars Trade Krys Barch To Florida Panthers

It's been a very newsy morning in Frisco. Word came down that Mark Fistric has been suspended three games for charging, Alex Goligoski and Trevor Daley are 100% ready for tomorrow (wow, on Goligoski!) and that Brenden Morrow is only "likely" after 16 days off.

As if that wasn't enough information to consume, word also comes that Krys Barch has played his last game for the Dallas Stars.

Krys Barch was traded today along with a sixth round pick in next years draft for left wing Jake Hauswirth and Florida's fifth round pick this summer. Hauswirth is 23 years old and has spent his career in the ECHL and CHL. We're hearing he'll likely go to the Idaho Steelheads, not the Texas Stars, and is a long shot to ever make the NHL.

The guess is that this is more about freeing up roster spots for when Adam Burish comes back soon, and allowing Krys Barch the opportunity to get NHL minutes. For the trouble the Stars get their 6th round pick upgraded to a 5th rounder, basically. (The Stars have done quite well in that 5th round in recent years).

This opens the door for Tomas Vincour to stay with Dallas longer, or else be called up more frequently as injuries require, and it let's Krys Barch, a friend of DBD and a proud, hard worker, to play the game he loves more regularly with the Florida Panthers.

We thank Krys Barch for a wealth of fun fight memories and tweets.

Full press release after the jump...

Star-divide

Frisco, TX - The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has traded right wing Krystofer Barch and Dallas' sixth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for left wing Jake Hauswirth and Florida's fifth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Hauswirth, 23, has collected 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in 16 games this season for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL). The 6-5, 218-pound left wing from Houghton, MI, has recorded points in four straight games for the Killer Bees (1 goal, 4 assists). During the 2010-11 campaign, Hauswirth began the season with South Carolina Sting Rays of the ECHL, skating in 37 games and collecting 14 points (10 goals, 4 assists). On Feb. 28, 2011, Hauswirth was traded to Florida from Washington in exchange for defenseman Dennis Wideman and finished the year with the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL). In 12 games with Cincinnati, he collected 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists).

Barch, 31, has skated in 10 games this season with Dallas with 23 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-1, 237-pound right wing from Hamilton, ON has played all of his 263 career NHL games in a Dallas Stars uniform, collecting 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) and 578 PIM. During the 2010-11 season, Barch ranked third on the club in penalty minutes (80 PIM) and skated in 44 games.

The Dallas Stars are currently second in the Pacific Division and will face the San Jose Sharks tomorrow night (Dec. 8) at HP Pavilion at 9:30 p.m. CT (TV: FOX Sports Southwest, Radio: 1310 The Ticket).

This......Not a good day for me

Now my Barch jersey gets packed up with my Turco and Richards. I guess I should start wearing jerseys of players I don’t want around anymore. I’ll start with Daley, Peterson and then Wandell

by cajun_kowboy on Dec 7, 2011 9:51 PM CST up reply actions

Godard is in

Austin — just a phone call away

But yeah, I liked Barch – hope he does well in FLA

by rev0lver19 on Dec 7, 2011 1:01 PM CST reply actions

Yeah

But Godard doesn’t skate nearly as well as Barch does.

Or at least..he didn’t in the preseason.

by Brad Gardner on Dec 7, 2011 1:03 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

He’ll fill the role that Barch did, for the most part. Dowell could also chip in.

Also maybe opens up more time for Wandell once we’re healthy again.

by rev0lver19 on Dec 7, 2011 1:11 PM CST up reply actions

That has no value

If he fights once every 5-6 games and has to skate 9 minutes a night otherwise…poorly.

by Brad Gardner on Dec 7, 2011 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

I guess what I'm trying to say is...

They don’t need him. At all. Or any enforcer. perhaps.

by Brad Gardner on Dec 7, 2011 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

It'd be nice to have the option though.

I mean…I’m all for letting Ott or Morrow hold their own, but I’d rather have someone…less essential throwing hands like that.

Adam Burish. Eric Nystrom. Mark Fistric.

There are plenty of options.

Bogus.

These guys combined have had 5 fights all year and you could argue all but one were won by the opposing team (Burish beat up that legendary tough guy Dennis Wideman). Stars should have a legit tough guy on the roster.

by bones_boy on Dec 7, 2011 9:45 PM CST up reply actions

When everyone is back, Fistric will likely be in and out of the lineup.

Not to mention, I really don’t want Burish fighting with the hand that just healed.

Bitter Sweet for me

Been watching Barch since he was in Iowa and he was my favorite current Star. But it was his time. Plus we got a young large body forward and a fifth round pick, the magic round, who isn’t happy with that. BEST OF LUCK IN FLORIDA BARCHY

Good luck Barchy!

He’s always stood up to anybody and played his heart out for Big D. He’ll get more icetime on an surprising successful team with Florida. We have Godard in Cedar Park to call up if we need the fisticuffs. He’s a tough hombre.

Godard and Gazdic

Both ready to throw down with anybody

I really like Gazdic.

Perhaps we see him with the (Dallas) Stars one day.

Later, Barchy.

I’ll never forget those rare moments when he scored with something other than his fists.

Thanks for the memories Barch.

I’ll never forget the evil grin you gave the Wings bench after catching Chelios’ stick. They looked scared, and you looked like an animal. Good times. You’re one of the toughest out there.

When talking Barchy

the same image always appears in my mind. When he smiled that bloody devish grin at the zebra after catching a stick in the grill.

Godspeed Barchy.

Here's hoping he sees more minutes...

…and establishes himself for the Florida forecheck. He deserves it.

As for us, well, gotta love adding a 5th rounder.

So long Barch.

You were a small one. But you always did what the team asked, can’t ask more from you.

Good. The more they can do to keep the bottom of the roster fluid as they identify the future composition of the roster the better.

i liked that he stood up for his teammates but this is a good move for the stars. Rather have those minutes going to a younger guy and we have some fighters ready to take his place.

Per @HockeyBreak on twitter...
There is nothing wrong with a veteran putting in his time and requesting a trade. Krys Barch quietly asked to be moved where he can succeed.

I hope he gets the ice time he’s looking for.

He definitely will in the short term. The Panthers have been running an AHL line for about two weeks now. Not sure about when/if everyone’s back from injury, but that hasn’t happened yet this season.

You guys got a great locker room guy.

And I hope he proves me wrong on this, but — he’s been a healthy scratch around here for a reason. He just can’t keep up really.

Wha?
Krys Barch quietly asked to be moved where he can succeed.

Where exactly would that be?

Classy move by the Stars

I will miss Barch, who it seemed was the underdog in every fight he took, but this benefits the Stars greatly, both in presence on the ice, and in continuing their reputation of respecting their players so well.

Good move by the Stars

Though I really liked Barch. Not the greatest enforcer or player, but enjoyed seeing him play nonetheless.

All the best to him with the Panthers.

There are tons of places to see a bunch of folks that have no business trying to play hockey.

There’s no reason to go all the way to the AAC for it.

by wonderboy14 on Dec 7, 2011 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

Good luck Barchie,

always there for his teammates and did whatever was he was asked by the coaches. A standup guy. Thanks!

If true that he asked to be moved to a place where he could compete for ice time, it again shows why most players in the league consider Dallas a quality place to play. Frankly, this is about the only way this makes sense.

by 1paniolo on Dec 7, 2011 3:17 PM CST reply actions

he'll probably end up in the minors

which is where he needs to be. glad he’s not here anymore, he’s a fighter who doesn’t win fights.

by the way worst e-news ever...

by heyitsthatguy! on Dec 7, 2011 5:00 PM CST reply actions

Dallas is now Buffalo without Ryan Miller

Islanders on 12/15 are going to beat the crap out of us. Boston on New Years Eve will beat us into submission and we won’t have anyone to stand up for the team.

by cajun_kowboy on Dec 7, 2011 10:01 PM CST reply actions

That’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve heard all year. Barch was useless; more often than not he lost his fights. If he can’t win fights, and if he can’t contribute in goals, then what’s the point in having him? If worst comes to worst they can recall Godard or just score goals and win the rest of the games instead of building team spirit through blood.

Glad to see Barch go… just a below average player that couldn’t score goals – and it’s not like we need that.

by Wildcard44 on Dec 7, 2011 10:18 PM CST up reply actions

So, you'd rather Morrow, Ott or Benn take the fights over Barch?

Or just have the Stars sit back and get beat to crap without doing anything in return? Winning fights is not what an enforcer’s main objective is.

by cajun_kowboy on Dec 7, 2011 10:37 PM CST up reply actions

I'm glad to see him move on for both sides...

Barch needs a place where he can get ice time and maybe a new team will allow him to be more than just a team goon…

And I’m glad the Stars have one less player they feel they need to have in a healthy scratch rotation which is what they seemed to have at the start of the season.

apropos of nothing but thought I'd swing by anyway

As a sportswriter in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I had the opportunity to watch Jake Hauswirth in juniors quite a bit. Real nice kid, hard worker. He was pretty enjoyable. A lot of people up here hope he makes it to the NHL.

Anyway, the most memorable thing I can tell you about him is that he once made a complete mess out of opponent who didn’t want to fight fairly. Just totally bloodied the kid’s face. If I’m remembering the right fight, he was mad because the other kid didn’t take off his helmet before the fight so he did it for him. Took about 10 minutes to clean up the ice afterwards.

Junior hockey is a lot of fun.
