This team is similar in some ways to the ‘99 team, but not by as much as I’d like.

In particular, I think it goes downhill with the less limelighted players. Hatcher > Chara is a pretty obvious transfer, as well as Hull > Stamkos, Lehtinen > Datsyuk, and maybe even Ludwig > Skrastins, but the rest of it is a bit harder to tell… Marleau, for instance, I put in Modano’s place because I read that he’s supposed to be pretty fast, and his stats look like they’d be okay. Spezza is an offensive forward just like Nieuwendyk was an offensive forward, Benn is a young up-and-coming star just like Langenbrunner was, etc.

The goaltending was based primarily on Rinne being one of the best goalies who also has more relative penalty minutes. Boucher… just stood out as a backup-type guy.

So this roster has its issues, but this is much more subjective than the all-time Stars roster, so if you think you can do a better job than me, for ’98-99, give it a try.
