"DBD Live" Thursday Night, Planning the Next DBD Watch Party

Kind of a late afternoon grab-bag here as we're all busy at work and the Stars have given us very little to report or otherwise complain about today.

Practice updates from today say that Karlis Skrastins is getting closer and closer and could be considered at this point "probable" for Saturday against Atlanta, barring set backs and restrictions from the medical staff regarding possible concussions symptoms.

One wonders if a week and a half off at this point in the season for the veteran Latvian might be a really good thing. For Matt Niskanen, however, it's hard to see as anything but a set back. The laceration in his palm needs time to heal and they can't quite put a timeline on it.

DBD Live Tomorrow Night

We've been neglecting our podcast duties during the busy holiday season and there have been some Wednesday games to contend with during this very busy stretch of schedule they just finished. (This is their first three day break since early November). The plan is to do a show tomorrow at 7:00pm CST on Blog Talk Radio. If you've never participated in the chat room during the show or called in (or emailed) you should check it out, it's usually a lot of fun. Where else are you going to get Stars radio around here?

Defending Big D on Blog Talk Radio.

2nd Annual Defending Big D Watch Party

We'd kind of like to do this more than just annually but it's tough finding times and places to get everyone together, so we need you to help us out. In the comments let us know if you're interested and the city you live in or the city you'd prefer to go to.

Last year we had it at Frankies (a really, really cool sports bar/restaurant) in Lewisville and that seemed to work out well. The owner is friendly to DBD and I would definitely put it at the top of my list of places to revisit in the future but we're open to suggestions.

We're set on Saturday, February 5th. Stars @ Flyers 6:00pm CST. That's the day before the Super Bowl. We should stay the heck away from Arlington and Tarrant County.

What say you? Who's in?

Watching Party

Of course the DBD party is for a game against the only NHL team I root for against the Stars. Might show up anyway unless other commenters tell me I’d be a proverbial turd in the punchbowl…

Show up anyways!

My parents are both Flyers fans! I root for them when they aren’t playing the Stars, but when they are… hey, you’re going down!

I would really love to go to the watch party but...

I’m going to be swamped this semester. I work every weekday from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the have class from 12- 4 Monday – Thursday (no class Friday, but I still have work). Add to that the unfortunate fact that I’m about 2 1/2 hours east of the Dallas area and suddenly making the drive out there on one of my few days of relaxation doesn’t sound appetizing…

But maybe I’m just making excuses. If you play one, I’ll try to be there if school and work haven’t killed me yet.

Thats far to go

But the party is early, on a Saturday. That should be fun.

I know there are some people who live South of Dallas

So if we can agree upon a place in the middle, that would be perfect I think. We just need to hear from you guys.

We had a blast last year, and the Stars won to boot.

Let me know if we can do one closer to Memphis...

Or if we can do one before Tax season next year. Preferable thanksgiving week or around New Years. Those are the only times I can make it :-(

Frankie's..

Would be great. Missed the last one, but I know it’s got some decent food, good beer selection and a good amount of TVs so everyone can watch. Plus, not much in the way of competition on the TV.

by StarsFan22 on Jan 12, 2011 4:30 PM CST reply actions

my vote is somewhere in Dallas

Frankies on McKinney is a good spot. as is First and 10 in Lakewood.

im simply not going to drive up to Lewisville (not that anyone cares!) it’s just too far. at most maybe somewhere in Addison as it’s rather centrally located or around 635.

addison would be good for me as well

I’m over in carrollton

I would be coming up from Cedar Hill.

Since it is a Saturday night, it wouldn’t be as bad going up to Lewisville as it was last year (a Tuesday night). However, I’d be all for it if we could plan it for someplace more centrally located, such as south of I635.

Addison is not that much closer for me than Lewisville is. In fact, Frankie’s in Lewisville is easy for me to get to since I live right off US 67 in Cedar Hill, which feeds into I35E, so it’s pretty much a straight shot up the highway to get to Frankies.

How would everyone feel about

A more central location like grapevine/Irving/coppel/valley ranch?

by Brad Gardner on Jan 12, 2011 7:27 PM CST via mobile reply actions

I live in the sticks past Ft. Worth, sooo....

I’d be doing a lot of driving anywhere anyway. But if I had to suggest a place I’d say either Hooligan’s or Cool Beans in Denton, only 45 minutes down the 380 for me.

by Angelou Del Angel on Jan 12, 2011 9:15 PM CST up reply actions

Besides....

Denton would be a good refuge from the craziness of the Super Bowl.

by Angelou Del Angel on Jan 12, 2011 9:23 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with Cool Beans because, cheap beer, pretty good bar food and they a very Stars friendly staff. Also I can ride my bike there.

by moresweetsoul on Jan 13, 2011 5:50 AM CST up reply actions

Denton is just too far north to be a central location

Even though I know there are some great bars up there for Stars games. But for those traveling from southern Dallas county, that’s just too far.

Grapevine

I like it… pretty central to the metroplex… Not that I much care with my being 100 miles out and all…

Well, as I suspected, we solved nothing.

Be advised…it’s going to be somewhere like…“mid cities” to be fair to everyone.

If we could find a good place at the airport we’d do it there. It’s “in the middle”

by Brad Gardner on Jan 12, 2011 10:18 PM CST reply actions

do it at the texas stadium.

there’s nothing going on there that weekend anyways.

More exciting than an airport.

I'm in!

There’s a Buffalo Wild Wings in Grapevine. That’s kinda near the airport or something.

I would suggest my boyfriend’s bar, but we’re too far north for most people. :P

by Taylor Baird on Jan 13, 2011 12:05 AM CST reply actions

I like that idea

Pretty fairly centralized… I have to drive an hour and a half anyway, but I’ll come as long as I’m not working that weekend.

by Crenim on Jan 13, 2011 8:48 AM CST up reply actions

Down with Buffalo Wild Wings, long live Pluckers.

They supposedly have a Grapvine location opening in time for the Super Bowl.

by Sugaa on Jan 13, 2011 9:02 AM CST up reply actions

Pluckers

Would have my vote. The only one I know of is down off Greenville somewhere in Dallas.

Who wouldn’t want to eat delicious wings and drink sweet tea out of a mason jar?!

I'm in FTW

and considering i only have a motorcycle, and given the recent weather track record, i’d vote for somewhere not pertaining to a toll road. relevance is none, i just really hate toll roads and the greater dallas area due to traffic likeness. plus i’d have to drive through arlington which i’m entirely against.

BUT.

i would love to meet the DBD community. maybe i’ll even wear my old college hockey jersey

by Brad_Richards_Rocks on Jan 13, 2011 7:15 AM CST via mobile reply actions

If you're looking for a family-friendly matinee game ...

There is a Gattitown around 635/Tollway on Marsh. The Morrow jersey is gone, but I think there is still a Turco collectible plaque in the redemption center. There are big projection screens, and their party rooms have tvs.

by cC Dallas on Jan 13, 2011 8:05 AM CST reply actions

Not Denton!

Okay, I know you already said that Denton is too north to be a central location, but i just really had to emphasize that. Love UNT, but I have no desire to ever return to Denton. Last time I was there, my tires got slashed and I’m pretty sure that if i ever develop lung cancer it will be because of Denton bars.
My vote is for Addison or Irving (although I’m much closer to Addison). There is a Champs there off beltline that has a ton of TVs or there’s BJs Brewery too.

by Margot Loren on Jan 13, 2011 9:15 AM CST reply actions

I'd like to go

I live in Irving and somewhere central would be awesome so more folks could show. I know we probably have some Ft. Worth folks and what not so somewhere in the middle like Lewisville, Irving etc.

grapevine is centrally located?!

idk abt that. maybe to people in FW, but how many FW’ers are coming?

plus i think grapevine, being close to the airport, could be busy w/ Super Bowl messiness. people staying at Gaylord MegaPlex and whatnot. just my thoughts.

I still think Dallas is centrally located, call me crazy. Plano, Frisco, Lewisville…Meskeeters, Duncanville can all get to dallas in 20 min.

by spatulacity on Jan 13, 2011 10:42 AM CST reply actions

I wish there was some way to know

What kind of factor the super bowl is going to be.

It’s just that we needed a weekend, away game, before March when Worley goes back out on the rig, and this is the only game.

The Vancouver game on the 19th is at 9pm so that’s no bueno.

by Brad Gardner on Jan 13, 2011 11:09 AM CST reply actions

I would think the further away from Arlington the better

Having the super bowl in dfw is going to be a huge event. Still, I’ll go if I can. I’ve been a highly dedicated lurker here for over a year. I should probably not be such a huge fan of the team on an island anymore.

I won't bore you with a signature on every post I make... Oh wait. Damnit!

What we'll do is take all these suggestions

And Brad and I will talk it out and figure out the best way to do it.

Also have to remember, we need to schedule this out with the bar and plan ahead, so that has to come into consideration as well. We should have something nailed down over the next few days.

awesome place

but maybe for a weeknight…weekends it’s packed and usually has music upstairs.

BJ's in Arlington

Just a suggestion but there is Bj’s on 20 in Arlington that might be a little more central to all. It’s right on 20 and kind of centered between, Forth Worth, Dallas and those south of the metroplex. Good Food and lots of TV’s.
