Cheechoo Released As Stars Trim Roster To 33

Photo

Jonathan Cheechoo had to know that if he was going to make the Dallas Stars, he was going to need to make a splash early in camp.  He didn't and as such the Dallas Stars released him from his NHL tryout as the Stars moved a total of 18 players this morning.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the league that has a bad thing to say about Cheechoo and he had plenty of hockey fans pulling for him, and while the work ethic was there, the skill level wasn't and the Stars can ill afford to wait for players like Cheechoo to find their game.

The rest of the roster moves made this morning were all pretty much expected as Texas Stars training camp will open on Tuesday.  The list of players going to Austin is as follows:

G - Richard BachmanTyler Beskorowany

D - Jordie Benn, Trevor LudwigGuillaume Monast

RW - Sean BackmanRaymond SawadaColton SceviourMatt Tassone

LW - Luke Gazdic, Scott McCulloch & Michael Neal

C - Tristan King, Greg Rallo, Ondrej RomanMathieu Tousignant

As well, defenseman Jace Coyle was sent to his junior team in Medicine Hat.

33 players remain on the Stars roster as the team prepares for a Tuesday pre-season game against the Colorado Avalanche.

While Vincour and Gagnon won't make the team, most likely..

The players that are with the Stars right to the end are going to be the ones that get the first call up.

I think Cheechoo had a lot of fans going into this camp..

Hopefully he catches on somewhere. It’s amazing to see how far he’s fallen. It’s almost Rick Ankiel like.

She is not the only one on the Cheechoo train.

He’s a class act, a hard worker, and a solid player. Unfortunately his skating abilities never were his strength and it was hard for him to bounce back after some injuries and he never regained a confident scoring touch. I’m a fan, and I believe there are a lot of others rooting for him including many players and coaches in the NHL.

Alot of Sharks fans are pulling for him to find a home. Just damn that he hasn’t yet. :(

No surprises there

Cheechoo can’t skate well enough. Plain and simple.

Is Matt Stephenson still on the roster?

So in addition to the 23 NHL players, this leaves Gagnon, Vincour, Morin, Wathier, Larsen, Blindenbacher, Lukowich, Fortunus, Krahn, and Matt Stephenson? Is this right, are they keeping Matt Stephenson on the roster? I have not heard a thing about him all camp, what is this about?

No, Stephenson is not on the current roster.

What about Raycroft?

Will he be seeing any preseason action? Nobody’s really said anything about what’s going to happen to him.

Here's to all us girls who love hockey...and the men who play it.

He's going to get a full preseason game next week.

Krahn got his, Lehtonen will get 2 more, and Raycroft will get one.
