Gameday Preview: Dallas Stars Host Tampa Bay Lightning (7:30pm CDT)
23 weeks. 166 days. 3,984 hours. 240,000~ minutes. It doesn't matter how you slice it; What's important is that it's been entirely too long since the American Airlines Center was open for hockey business and sold an insanely expensive beer to me. The drought ends tonight as the Tampa Bay Lightning come to town to open the pre-season at 7:30pm CDT.
The Stars:
If you're in to watching the Stars best and brightest, tonight might not be for you. Brad Richards, James Neal, Loui Eriksson, Jamie Benn and Steve Ott are not expected to play tonight as the roster is so large and the younger players must be evaluated.
The great news for we prospect watchers is that Scott Glennie, Philip Larsen, and Severin Blindenbacher will be featured tonight. This will be Scott Glennies first game at the American Airlines Center and fans first chance to see his speed in a game situation. Philip Larsen (D) played two games with the Stars last year, taking part in the Modano-farewell game, and could (looking at this lineup) quarterback the Stars power play tonight.
We'll also be keeping an eye on tryout Jonathan Cheechoo who will be looking to make an impact with the Ribeiro/Morrow duo. Mike Ribeiro is revitalized and ready to go and Marc Crawford said he looked like the best player at camp this weekend.
Perhaps most importantly, the backup netminder battle will be front and center tonight as Brent Krahn and Andrew Raycroft split this game 50/50. With Kari Lehtonen expected to get 3 full games in the pre-season, these two will need to take maximum advantage of the minimal opportunities afforded them.
Expected lineup after the jump...
Forwards: Brenden Morrow, Mike Ribeiro, Jonathan Cheechoo, Francis Wathier, Mathieu Tousignant, Greg Rallo, Scott Glennie, Toby Petersen, Krys Barch, Tomas Vincour, Aaron Gagnon, Brian Sutherby, .
Defensemen: Philip Larsen, Trevor Daley, Matt Niskanen, Mark Fistric, Severin Blindenbacher, Brad Lukowich
Goaltenders: Krahn, Raycroft.
If you go tonight, keep an eye on Aaron Gagnon and Greg Rallo who both impressed in the AHL playoffs last year with the Texas Stars.
The Lightning:
Former Stars goaltender Mike Smith was scheduled to get time tonight, but a practice injury will keep him home. Instead, the Stars will see former Predator Dan Ellis.
Mike Heika says the expected TB lineup is...
TB lineup
9 Downie, Steve
18 Hall, Adam
24 Harju, Johan
6 Malone, Ryan
19 Moore, Dominic
71 Panik, Richard
23 Persson, Niklas
43 Pouliot, Marc-Antoine
16 Purcell, Teddy
44 Thompson, Nate
42 Tyrell, Dana

oh sweet jeebus, i missed these posts!!!
If only we could have a GDT… except there’s no radio or tv broadcast :-(
"Dallas Cowboys youth basketball jerseys are the favorite in the sports jerseys field and outside nfl Jerseys cheap it."
Actually
There is. Don’t you read my posts???? ;)
Supposedly there’s a Tampa broadcast, and Art is going to be hosting a GDT, which I’ll try to check in on from the game as much as I can.
I make it a point to read everyone's posts but yours...
Okay, so that’s not true.
I didn’t even bother to look at the broadcast information. I just assumed. And you know what happens when you make assumptions. You make an ass outta u and mptions. Or something.

**happy**
No sweeter words…“hockey game day”
Love pre-season games. I’m going to be saying “Severin Blindenbacher” all day now…wonder how many times I can work it into casual conversation here at work…well, before they get sick of me and my “hockeyHOCKEYhockeyHOCKEYhockey” spazzing that’s currently going on…
**Proof SOME rules are meant to be broken**
What did we decide his nickname was again?
The Blindenbacher 3000? Or the Blender-Baker?

Our household had adopted The Blindenbacher 2000.
Is there a new model out already???

You think we can convince him to make his official number 2000?

Blindenbacher = same number of letters as Langenbrunner.
Didn’t they actually check that before signing the kid?

"Sorry, kid. You can't play in the NHL."
“Why, whatever for?”
“Because….your name won’t fit on the jersey.”

I remember the Stars tweeting about it.
But it’s all good. I’m personally hoping he makes it just so I can call him “Severus Snape” on a regular basis.

The AHL model is The Blindenbacher 2000.
If he makes the NHL he’s The Blindenbacher 3000.
It's almost that time again!
Will visual aesthetics be required again this season?

Also keep an eye on:
Tomas Vincour. Pure goal scorer, trying to become a better all around player. He is a big giant ball of energy.

With a description like that, how can we NOT pay attention to him?

Of course...paying attention is tough
When all we have is the radio.

Brandon…Is there anyone of the young guys that have a shot at making the team this year? Ie…kinda like Jamie did. Maybe Vincour will go on a scoring tirade and make a case for himself? Not sure of his status and the others.
Umm...
Perhaps. It’s going to be tough though, since the NHL roster is pretty much full. If there were a spot available, and Cheechoo plays well, it’s going to be his.
You also have to think that players like Segal, Brunnstrom and Sutherby aren’t necessarily guaranteed a roster spot either, not if a younger player has a tremendous camp. I’d say of the young players, Aaron Gagnon and Philip Larsen have the best chance to get a surprise roster spot. Colton Sceviour has a very, very slight chance but I doubt it.
Have to remember, Jamie Benn was a phenom. Not many players make the jump that he did.

You said Mike Smith wasn't playing...
but Heika says he’s on the roster for tonight. Which should I believe? I LOVE BOTH OF YOU GUYS!!
But anyway, I really hope they are doing the game on the Tampa Bay radio broadcast. Let’s go Stars!
Heika's post was done before the news about Smitty had been posted.

where's the lightning broacast??
I need to watch hockey, or i might go crazy
I'm not sure I want to live in a world where the Stars are playing but not on TV.
"Hey... Goldberg! I bet if that puck was a cheeseburger, you'd stop it!
I hope Ralph and Razor do some kind of preseason broadcast.
I’m so hockey-deprived that I need to hear their voices over at least a radio broadcast. I miss them.

They typically do one preseason game.
But I really wish they’d do more.
