The Stars continue training camp in Prince Edward Island this morning with an early skate and a scrimmage, which started at 11:00 CDT, just a few minutes ago. Our eyes and ears in PEI this weekend, Mark Stepneski and Mike Heika are keeping you updated on their blogs (ESPN Dallas) (DMN) and are saying that less than 10 minutes after the scrim started, Tom Wandell did this:
Tom Wandell goes into the boards hard, down on the ice for a bit and has gone to the locker room. Keep you updated.
Not exactly the kind of thing you want to hear about when guys are playing against their teammates. Surely extra caution would be exercised with a guy like Wandell, who is attempting to make a comeback after season ending knee surgery last winter.
Still, it makes you wonder what the Stars plan would be if Wandell were to miss any significant time to start the season. Hopefully it's nothing, but as last year the Stars do have options. Jamie Benn at center starts to make more sense. Toby Petersen can be relied upon to center a 3rd or 4th line. Brian Sutherby can play center, and Steve Ott is an option of (last-ish) resort. He's played center in the past and is more than a competent faceoff guy.
Meanwhile, Jamie Benn has scored...and surprise...Fabian Brunnstrom assisted on it?
We'll update Wandell's status later when the boys in PEI get a chance to talk to the coaching staff. Cross your fingers and hope the guys get back to Texas tomorrow with no further scratches.
