DMN: Marty Turco Speaks
"I've played a long time and seen a lot of ups and downs in the NHL and ... the last few years not making the playoffs cemented my belief in how I work and what makes me tick and that's to have an opportunity to win."
This is the kind of quote that half of us love, and half of people hate vehemently. It's honest.
We've been saying it for a while now: Get Marty into the playoffs and his concentration and performance will reflect the stage he's on. He's basically saying the same thing here. A lot of people will point and say "He should play at that level and be motivated no matter how good his team is!" (i.e. The last two seasons) but that's just not the way it is, and it's easier said than done. Spend two years in a job you feel is going nowhere and see how you feel.
I take this quote as an admission by Marty of this very phenomenon. "What makes him tick" is an opportunity to win; Meaning that he believes you'll see a better Marty Turco on a good team. He'll get no arguments from me.

Agreed
I’ve always been a goalie and I will agree with Marty here. Grant it, I’ve never gotten into the NHL obviously (though I have played in the chl) and I can tell you that psychology does matter.
I’m an avid Stars fan and always will be. But this past year with our new ‘coach’…hasn’t been a very motivating year. As much as I want to, I don’t have high hopes right now. I think the Stars are still going to need another year or two to work things out and be a contender again.
Ive seen the way a lot of our fans treated Turco. They badger him every time he plays the puck or lets in a softy. But who cares? It happens. And now with us bringing up Kari with Krahn and Campbell in the miners…you tell me if you think he would really want to stay here?
I wish him luck and hope he does well.
Perhaps someday he can come back to Dallas and be a mentor to Campbell. I could totally see Marty being a wise Obi-Wan Kenobi type.
Here's to all us girls who love hockey...and the men who play it.
