Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Turn on your radio, your internet stream, your smart phone, the fillings in your teeth that pick up radio waves, etc, turn them up as loud as they go, and listen to what is sure to be an awkward Mike Modano press conference at 10:30 am on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket.

This is painful

to listen to. Modano can’t find his words. It’s obvious he is upset about not playing for the Stars. I hope is retirement speech is much better.

At the same time...

I think he’s being very reasonable and he understands that it’s just crappy situation for everyone.

What were our Sports Stages of Grief again?

Shock
Anger
Bargaining
Sadness
Acceptance

Ok

Now I feel punched in the gut for some reason.

I was busy working...

was it pretty rough to listen to?

by Tsudbury on Jun 30, 2010 10:59 AM CDT up reply actions

I mean...

He was very reasonable and he just wanted to say thanks to a bunch of folks. It wasn’t that bad and it wasn’t anything new.

It’s just that when it was over…it was just over. Suddenly. Like SLAM! the door just shut on the Mike Modano era right then. It felt jarring to me.

And I was even there on April 8th...

That’s when it was really over here, I guess. I’ve just been holding out hope that he would retire. This press conference made me think that he’s definitely not going to retire.

It seems like any great player

who isn’t sure the before the final whistle of the final game in the season ALWAYS chooses to come back for one more. Maybe that’s just me, though.

Of course, I’d give it some time… it all depends on the offers he gets. I trust him that he’s not going to go play for sokme crappy team. He’s only going to go play for a cup contender, and he’s only going to play in the western conference. That means 2 teams, essentially, that he would be willing to play for instead of retiring: Sharks and Wings.

The real question is whether or not the Sharks or Wings are going to be interested in him at all…

by Tsudbury on Jun 30, 2010 11:12 AM CDT up reply actions

I really hope that

Modano isn’t fooling himself into thinking he is going to get 2nd line minutes on a Cup contender. There was a reason he was demoted to the 3rd and 4th line. If he wasn’t happy playing in a position that the Stars had him then why would he accept the same roll on a different team? I guess whatever team he plays for would almost have to guarantee him a Stanley Cup. I would think the Sharks are out of the picture then and that would leave only Detroit. It really is a kick to the sack to think that the only team that would be a good fit would be the Wings.

I love Mo but I must admit, I've had the exact same thoughts.

2nd line minutes on a Cup contender? I just don’t see it.

I’m really confused as to what Mo’s expectations are.

I bet the Ducks wish they could have Modnao under contract

Instead of Todd Marchant.

Don’t underestimate Modnao’s desire to be near his wife in SoCal.

The Kings aren’t a good fit though….kind of a logjam at center there.

Phoenix is closer to LA than Dallas

He might fit there – especially with Tip

Proud fan of the #1 college hockey team in the nation - Miami University Redhawks - The Brotherhood. RIP Brendan Burke.
