Stars announce schedule for 2010 Development Camp in Frisco
It's from July 1-7 and is open to the public, so you can get a great chance to see the newest Star, Jack Campbell, in person as well as the rest of the 2010 draft class. Also taking part in the camp are last year's first round pick, Scott Glennie and our favorite Danish defenseman Philip Larsen. Check out the full roster and schedule by following the link.

Might have to check this out.
Any word on if training camp is staying in Frisco yet?
"Hey... Goldberg! I bet if that puck was a cheeseburger, you'd stop it!
No official word yet
Still it seems doubtful.
It’s just a few days in prince Edward island though, then they’ll be back here for games and practice in frisco.

I love Prospect Camp!
If any of you have the opportunity to go, YOU SHOULD! We are hoping to make it out there either Friday or Monday. Weekend is full of family Fourth of July stuff. Bummer. ;)

Does anyone think there is a chance someone might sign Neal to an offer sheet?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Unlikely.
Basically: Neal (his agent) wants somewhere in the 3-4 million range per year. Stars can’t afford that (at this point) so they’d want to backload it. The agent wouldn’t like that (because he’s an agent), so he would hold out for more money per year. If the Stars play tough with the agent (which they really have no choice but to do so), then this could drag on, both playing chicken basically until training camp until he decides to sign. The Stars would have to just hope Neal doesn’t sign an offer sheet with someone else, but that’s unlikely because what Neal’s agent wants (a big first-year payout) isn’t what teams are willing to give out to 22-year old players with one great season. More than likely Neal’s side will balk first and the two sides will come to an agreement. That may not be very soon, but it will probably happen at some point.
That’s just my very, very basic understanding of RFA’s, but I’m confident that Neal will sign here. Just a matter of time and letting the process play out.
If someone wants to surrender a 1st and a 3rd
I don’t see any reason why he won’t be at least offered offer sheets.
I know Art is telling everyone to calm down, and I appreciate it, but I think I’m in the category of people that is a least a little apprehensive about this situation. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to come to a nice cozy conclusion any time soon, anyway.
I'm apprehensive too, but I'm the eternal optimist on this site, and I have to keep up my rep ;)
Actually, I’m just mentally bunkering down for a long process for this. Still see a happy ending, but it’ll take awhile.
Let me ask you guys this
if Neal were to be traded would a 1st and 3rd be enough? Because I’ve got to say if Pittsburgh were my team, or Vancouver, or any number of good clubs trading a 1st and 3rd for a 22 year old 25+ goal scorer is an easy deal. Especially if the pick is in the 20s. People blast the Kessel deal because Toronto gave up a lottery pick and next year’s first. If the right team comes along and offers this that’s completely different and why would anyone expect Neal turn down more money?
For a 25 goal scorer who is a burgeoning power forward
It’s not a bad deal at all, particularly if you’re planning on being good and your 1st rounder isn’t all that high. So it depends on the team.

Of course, teams that are already really good
aren’t going to be looking at snatching up a relatively unproven RFA from a team… They probably have most of what they need already, and can pick up something in free agency without having to give up draft picks. So if we DID lose him, I would wager that the 1st rounder we get wd be top 15, maybe top 10. Top 5 if it’s someone in the eastern conference… (cough cough thrashers)
And I don't think Neal would want to consider those teams...
we may be struggling right now, but we can be a serious power again in a couple years…
Relatively unproven?
Neal is streaky and disappeared at times but 27 and 25 goals his first two seasons in the league is not unproven. He’s exactly what Pittsburgh should target to fill their winger void. Assuming Boston can dump one of Wheeler or Ryder he’d be ideal there. They actually have an extra first to give and quality centermen to feed him the puck.
Other than Kovalchuk who out there is a better scorer than Neal on the FA market? Scott Walker, Ray Whitney, Maxim Afinogenov, Lee Stempniak and Pavol Demitra?
If a team can sign Neal for 4 million for the next four or five years that’s a vastly better deal than any of the above except Kovy. New Jersey would give up a 1st and a 3rd in a heartbeat.
What about arbitration?
Do teams even do that anymore? I haven’t heard the Stars do it since before the lockout i think…
Heika said Neal doesn't have arbitration rights, due to his age I think.

Yeah they gave him a QO and
have the option to discuss a deal but he has no Arb. rights. Its either he agrees to terms with Dallas or someone gives him an offer sheet. If it drags out and Dallas paints itself further into a money hole some team will give him an offer or try to work out a deal. Neal isn’t going to settle for less money. He doesn’t have to and Joe plus the rest of the league has to know that.
