Stars Will Not Sign Prospect Matt Tassone
Mark Stepneski of Andrew's Stars Page has a note today that suggests Dallas will not sign prospect Matt Tassone.
Visit Mark here at Andrew's Stars Page.
Tassone was drafted in the 6th round of the 2008 NHL entry draft by Dallas, and has spent his time in the Juniors with Swift Current, of the Western Hockey League. Despite 4 seasons in the WHL, Tassone has played in only 183 games, tallying 118 points in that time.
Matt was on track to have a breakout year in 2008-2009 when he piled up 55 points in his first 52 games, but suffered a shoulder injury that cost him the remainder of that season and, thanks to surgery, half of his 2009-2010 season as well. He's a 6 foot, 200lb left handed center and he will now head back into draft eligibility.
Defending Big D (and the incomparable Brandon Worley) had the pleasure of interviewing Tassone in January of this year. You can find that piece here.
Not signing prospects reeks of Tom Hicks and other Ranger related items, but this sounds like just a hockey decision. What say you?

Hockey decision.
His health is a real concern, and it’s not too surprising the Stars don’t want to commit to him until they are absolutely sure he is healthy again. In a perfect world, he’ll re-enter the draft, prove he is 100% healthy again, and the Stars could draft him all over again.
Tassone is a great kid, but I don’t blame the Stars for being careful on this one.
It’s probably the right decision, but I still feel bad about it. Hopefully the kid can resolve his health issues and stage a Stars comeback.
Here's to all us girls who love hockey...and the men who play it.

It's unfortunate
Any time you make a pick that doesn’t pan out hurts the prospect and the club. I hope the bad luck doesn’t become a trend (the team already lost out on two goaltending prospects, plus Wandell to injury).
I’m sure it’s nothing, but at some point it becomes something.
