Stars Assistant Andy Moog Will Not Be Back Next Season

The Dallas Morning News had a note this afternoon regarding the contract status of Andy Moog, who has been with the Dallas Stars for 8 seasons. Joe Nieuwendyk told Mike Heika that Moog will not be back with the team next season. His contract expires on July 1st.

This was his second stint as an assistant with Dallas. He served four years as an assistant, a few more as a goaltending coach, goaltending consultant, player development coach, then back to assistant last year.

Marc Crawford does indeed intent to fill the vacancy, and presumably retain Charlie Huddy and Stu Barnes. Barnes and Moog alternated turns on the bench and the press box last year.

This guarantees at least one new voice in the Stars locker room next year, which I think we should count as a good thing, as much as Andy was a terrific guy and a good Dallas Star for a very long time.

Mike Heika has quotes from Moog and Gm Joe on his DMN blog here.

How about getting rid of Huddy? I'm not really impressed with his job with the defense this year.

I don’t know enough about the work Moog has done to comment on his performance, but is this another sign of Joe’s makeover of the team by getting rid of guys who have been around a long time and bringing in new blood?
