Stars beat Wolves 6-5 in Game 7 on Benn's OT winner
The Texas Stars will be moving on to the West Conference Final in their first season as a franchise. Game 7 was an epic back-and-forth battle that needed extra time to be decided.
Texas gave up two early goals just a minute apart. Matt Climie got the start with Brent Krahn injured from Sunday's Game 6. The Stars came back and scored two of their own in the 53 seconds following. Travis Morin and Scott McCulloch had the tallies to tie the game. Texas gave up a shorthanded goal to Spencer Machacek to close the period.
Chicago scored again to open the first, a pretty play by Tim Stapleton to make it 4-2. A breakaway goal by Aaron Gagnon made it 4-3 to close the 2nd. Texas had only one win all year when trailing coming out of the second intermission.
Maxime Fortunus made it 4-4, trailing Colton Sceviour and Jamie Benn on a beautiful one-timer from the point. Jason Krog, of the Wolves, put Chicago up 5-4 on a backhander but Texas battled back again to tie it at 5. Andrew Hutchinson took advantage of an offensive zone icing faceoff and a tired group of Chicago defenders to tie it.
Texas took it to overtime for the 3rd time in the series. It was Jamie Benn on a do-it-yourself, unassisted play just 4:57 into the overtime period. Texas advances to the West Conference final against the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens). The series starts on Friday. Full game recap on Hundred Degree Hockey.

Regarding the Post game Chi-Van game....
I’m going to bed, and don’t want to forget about this by the time I wake up tomorrow…
Did anyone else see the Vancouver fan chuck their beer/soda and the Blackhawk fan after the game? They caught it on TV right after the interview with one of the chicago players. Can we PLEASE get a video of that posted, as a reason why we didn’t want the Canucks to make it in the playoffs? Their fans are just as whiny as Luongo, apparently.
I saw it
Unfortunately, I don’t have any video capture devices installed on my computer. Otherwise, I’d capture and post it.
You might try the comment threads at Second City Hockey to see if somebody over there posts it.

I would like to point out
that in the picture, Landon Wilson’s rear-end is level with everyone else’s head. For the oldest guy on the team, dude’s got some ups.

It's a great picture.
Climie: Look at me, I’m dancin’!
So...
Did Texas play the almighty Hamilton this year?
Hamilton has a crap load of points in the regular season standings. I am a-sceeeeered.
Another reason to cheer for Montreal to keep winning:
No P.K. Subban for Hamilton.

Yea!!!!!
I had checked out the score in the second period and it did not look good (Texas was down 4-2 at the time). Way to go guys, to come back and win in OT. And what else can we say about Jamie Benn? I hope next year he will be showing off those skills in the NHL playoffs.
Atta kid Bennster.
Here's to all us girls who love hockey...and the men who play it.

I heard Benn stripped the puck from
Chelios and took it in unassisted. Not sure if it was down low on the forecheck or out by the neutral zone.
I know Chelios matched up with Benn whenever they could but Benn still ended up with the most goals for the Stars. Anybody seen any comments form Chelios about the matchup?
Found a post game quote from Chelios ...
Chelios gave a tip of the hat to Jamie Benn, a Dallas Stars rookie who was sent to the Texas Stars to play following the end of the regular season. “He’s a young kid, a strong kid. It was no easy task (playing opposite him),” Chelios said.
For the 7 game Chicago series it looks like Benn had 4 goals with a hat trick and 3 assists for 7 points. He also had 2 game winning goals. Way to go Jamie!
