G Jussi Rynnäs Chooses Toronto

Unsigned free agent Finnish goaltending prospect Jussi Rynnas has evidently chosen Toronto as his destination, and will play in their minor league system while Jonas Gustavsson and J.S. Giguere occupy their NHL roster spots next season.

SB Nation Blog Pension Plan Puppets has the story thanks to some Finnish translation by some of the readership there. Their reports suggest that Rynnas has signed a 2 year, two way deal with the Maple Leafs.

This is the second year in a row that the Stars have courted an unsigned late-bloomer from Europe, only to lose him to Burke and Toronto. Last season Jonas Gustavsson narrowed his choices to Dallas or Toronto, making the Stars wait and possibly miss out on other free agents while he made his decision. Rynnas, though not as developed and therefore not likely to be counted on at an NHL level by any time, at least made his decision in a timely fashion.

The Stars, Flyers, Canadiens, Coyotes and Leafs were all thought to be pursuing the young netminder.
