Video highlights: Coyotes @ Stars: 3/21/2010

Another shootout, another shootout loss.  It seems like a record stuck in a groove - Dallas has gone 10-5 in shootouts this year (see my post "How the mighty have fallen in the shootout" for more on that).  However, there were some good things to take away from the game yesterday.  Dallas battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game and force overtime.  Jamie Benn now nearly has as many goals as he has years, putting the Stars on the board with his 19th of the year.  Loui Eriksson tied the game (and broke his team-leading tie with James Neal) with his 26th of the year in the 3rd period.  Marty Turco made a couple of good saves in the first to keep the game 0-0, and later made probably the best of the game (despite Trevor Daley's best effort to put it in the Stars' net) with 33 seconds left in overtime to force the shootout.

See the highlights after the jump...

Turco had to be there and he was...

A little over midway through the first period, Marty Turco made a great diving poke check save on the Coyotes' Lee Stempniak to preserve the 0-0 tie.

That's twice that Marty Turco has saved this group in front of him...

After Nicklas Grossman turned over the puck in the defensive zone, the Coyotes' Lauri Korpikoski passed to Petteri Nokelainen, whose shot on goal was saved by Turco from his knees.

Coyotes' defense did not spy Benn creeping from behind...

After the Coyotes scored twice on the power play, the Stars finally got on the board.   The Coyotes' Jason LaBarbara saved Jamie Benn's initial shot, which popped up in the air.  Benn swatted it into the net for his 19th of the year, off assists from defensemen Stephane Robidas and Nicklas Grossman (who somewhat redeemed himself for a misplay which lead to Phoenix's last second goal in the 1st period).

And brand new with 13 minutes to go in regulation...

The Stars battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game less than midway through the 3rd period.  Loui Eriksson scored off a pass from Brad Richards just after a Stars' power play expired at 7:11 in the period.

Oh, what a larcenous save that was...

Tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the Stars and Coyotes headed to overtime.  The overtime period was all Phoenix Coyotes, but Marty Turco managed to preserve the tie with 33 seconds left in the extra period, one of six saves he made in OT.  Turco made the initial save on the shot, but Shane Doan grabbed the rebound and shot it towards the net.  Trevor Daley nearly put it into the Stars' net (what else is new?), but Turco - lying on his belly on the ice - made a poke check save to send the game to a shootout.

Jamie Benn postgame interview

After being named the 3rd Star of the game, Jamie Benn was interviewed on Stars Live.
