Modano Out After Emergency Appendectomy

Well that figures.

From the Stars official press release:

Frisco, Tex. -- Dallas Stars center Mike Modano underwent surgery today for an appendectomy and will be out of action indefinitely. He is not expected to play in the Stars’ home game vs. San Jose on Tuesday evening.

Modano, 39, did not practice with the team today. He has appeared in all 68 of Dallas’ games this season (one of three players to do so; also Loui Eriksson and Stephane Robidas), scoring 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points with 20 penalty minutes.

I don't really have much more to add. Obviously his absence will be felt on the third line. And for a team that's had the kind of defensive problems lately that the Stars have had, this couldn't have occurred at a worse time.

Let's just hope Mo is resting comfortably and that he'll be able to return rather soon.

Because like Art said on Twitter, it would suck for Modano's career to end in Dallas because of a freaking appendectomy.

[UPDATE] Mike Heika has Mo's digits:

UPDATE: I texted Modano and he was kind enough to text back. He said the appendix did not rupture, so that was a good thing. He said he's been told 1-2 weeks.

And about that exact timeframe. Paging Dr. Crow:

``A lot of it depends on how invasive they were and whether you have any setbacks,'' Crawford said.

It is borderline devastating to me

To think that I might have watched Mike Modano for the last time yesterday and I didn’t even know it.

I can only imagine how he must feel.

If he works hard, he could get back for the final home game of the year, or, you know…just play another season ;)

Actually, I wouldn't put that past him.

I could totally see Mike getting angry and playing an entire season because he didn’t finish healthy.

Hockey nut since the night of 5/2/08. What a night it was.

And so it continues.

Lisa, if the Bible has taught us nothing else - and it hasn't - it's that girls should stick to girls' sports, such as hot-oil wrestling, foxy boxing, and such-and-such.

I didn’t realize that Mo had appeared in all 68 games…I must have missed him out there when he supposedly had that rib injury. :P

But seriously, this sucks. I hope that Sunday wasn’t his last game. That was by no means a proper good-bye from the fans. That’s what happened with Zubie: no proper send-off and it devastated me not knowing that that was his final game.

Here's to all us girls who love hockey...and the men who play it.

Ott *must* stop antagonizing appendixes.

It’s one thing when it’s your own, Otter…

addendum

funny about ott antagonizing appendixes, sad that we may have seen our last Modano game.

Very true

Won’t be surprised if Modano offers to come back for a pittance to help and (hopefully) to see happier days, but no one can know what the next few months hold. Definitely hope he’s back on the ice before he retires.

really....

This has to rank as the worst 24 months of hockey I have EVER had to endure….really makes you appreciate making the playoffs and exiting in the 1st/ 2nd round through this last decade….

Yeah.

I’m completely miserable San Diego.

IF

he’s out the rest of the season, I can’t even begin to believe that he wouldn’t come back for another season. You know he does not want to go out like this.
