Maybe Time To Experiment With Trevor Daley At Forward?

I doubt this will happen, and its really to bad, but I really would like to see Mark Crawford move Trevor Daley up to forward for a few games to see how he does!

I truly believe he would thrive up there. In my personal opinion, I think that Trevor is the fastest guy on the Stars. I can't tell you how many times I have seen him bring the puck up from our own end of the ice with a full head of steam, then bust into the opposing teams zone, which usually results in a high quality scoring chance for him or a teammate.  He has a great shot, loves to hit, and is aggressive.  Not only that, he would make a great two way forward since he understands the defensive side of hockey.

Since nothing seems to be working for our Black Shirts on both ends of the ice right now, and it appears that we will be missing the playoffs for a second straight year, I don't see how trying this out can hurt. I mean our defense wouldn't get any worse if we stuck Maxime Fortunas in his place for a few games so we could give this a shot.  We could very well have a diamond in the rough with #6!

It's a neat idea

But who do you get to play D instead?

He’s the highest paid D-man (this year) on the roster.

Is he worth 2.3 million as a forward? I doubt it.

Still, it would be fun to see how it worked out.

Even more fun, it would be a perfect commentary on this teams blue line. “They’re highest paid defenseman works better as a forward.” What a headline that would be…

He isn't worth 2.3 as a defender either

so what’s the difference? Might as well try.

The problem is that his best offensive skill is his shot. He has speed, but really who cares if you can’t do much else? Can his shot translate into enough goals to make it worthwhile? I doubt it.

Add him to the scrap heap with Fabian.

Possibilities

I can see both the upside and downside of this move. Right now with the current level of defensive play, and knowing it is a weak spot… is it such a good idea to move one of our more experienced defenders from the blue line. Granted Trevor is not always the most consistent player, but he does have his good nights back there as well. This isnt something that can be just a couple game experiment. You cant say lets do this two games and then if you dont get the result you want then no harm no foul. I am not against this idea, but right now it is always good to see a little devil’s advocate. On the up side this could have huge payoff. His speed is more of a key then his shot. Let me tell you why. Speed generates reaction from another team. Someone noted how it seems that a high quality scoring chance based on his quickness. The reaction he causes from this is what garners this. The second point I have to make is this… remember a few years back when Chicago was still a young promising upstart…. does the name Dustin Byfluglien ring a bell? Well if you can remember he was a “D” man for them. He now plays RW with a good return, but Chicago did not just try it out they made the choice and went for it. This is probably a better choice to try then to not. At this point can our defensive issues get worse by promoting another young player to get him some NHL experience. Probably not!!!!

Could....

It may…Only problem is he is another left shot. I don’t get to see enough games to know for sure. But I assume being left shot he plays on the left side. So does this just add to the issue of having to many left shots who naturally want to play on the left side? That being said as long as he is around and the team is struggling I see no reason why not to. Byfuglien is working well for the Hawks, do the Stars really need Ott and Daley making a more than 5million combined to grind, chip in a few goals, and add energy? I just do not see this as a long-term solution. The long-term solution is Re-upping with Daley at around 1 million, or letting him walk.
