Steve Ott: The 50th Dirtiest Player In Sports History
When it comes to sports news and opinion I always go to a site called Complex.com first (don't all of you?) and today they put out a list of the 50 dirtiest players / athletes of all time. Our own Steve Ott just makes it on as the 50th. The site author was even so kind to post a video of Otter trying to make Jordan Leopold's face a permanent part of the AAC glass (admittedly not exactly a nice thing to do) and then pound the ugly out of Ruslan Selei (not nice either, but we very much do enjoy seeing that) back when both were with the Colorado Avalanche.
Looking at the list it would seem the term "sports history" only applies to anything from the 1960's and beyond and not anything before, still though it's always interesting to see how non-Stars fans and media view Ott's play and.. well.. the "strategy" he sometimes employs on the ice.

WTF?
No Claude Lemieux? He was as dirty as they come.
Joke of a list if he isn’t included, especially if Ott is because Ott has come nowhere near the level of Lemieux.
When I think "pest", I think "Steve Ott".
I do not think “Steve Ott” when I think “dirty.”
Hell, I don’t even associate “Sean Avery” with “dirty”. He’s in the pest zone too…but toes the line more than Otter.
agreed.
I think of Avery as a stupid pest. Ott is a more intellegent pest. Although, to be fair, Ott used to be much more brutish before he became the offensive power that he is now.
The Stars will have a 3 game win streak within their first 6 games. Mark my words!
Steve Ott is a pesty, adorable, slightly evil teddy bear.
You want dirty? Try Matt Cooke and Jordin Tootoo among others.
Here's to all us girls who love hockey...and the men who play it.

Dirty
doesn’t mean agitating, it means bearing consistent intent to injure. Jordin Tootoo does spring readily to mind, as all of his hits seem to be aimed at the head area. While I could see Ott on a recent list for the eye-gouging business a couple of years back (remember? he had a broken hand and got jumped by all six anaheim players, who waited patiently until the final buzzer sounded, but he’s the devil because he poked Moen in the eye at the end of it), all time? No
I just don't understand people's perceptions of Ott.
“Dirty” is Roenick knocking out Modano, or Pronger stepping on someone with his skates, or Messier hitting Trevor Linden when he’s already down on the ice, or Scott Stevens’ elbows, or even Hatcher plastering Roenick against the glass and breaking his jaw.
The only thing remotely like that that Ott’s done is the alleged eye gouge, and even if he did inadvertently do that, it was understandable, since he had about four Ducks whaling on him at the time.
So he’s an agitator and a pest; big deal. He doesn’t actually generally hurt anyone, or physically impede them, and that’s what it takes, in my book, to really qualify as “dirty” — much less one of the dirtiest players of all time.
