GREAT tidbit of news that will make any Stars fan's day.
Ok so if any of you have read Eklund's trade rumors or anything he writes really you know that he is an idiot and a terrible reporter. The rumors he reports on are usually ridiculous trades that my 7 year old cousin would know not to make and he usually isn't even close in getting info on trades that do happen or that are probably going to happen. He has a ton of "sources" he quotes all the time but really he is extremely inaccurate and best for a good laugh if you're starving for hockey news/writing.
ANYWAY he did have this one line in one of his recent blogs listing the top 5 UFAs this summer. Brad was number one, and after talking about the rumors and teams potentially interested, he said this( which by the way I do believe because it has nothing to do with an actual trade or sources telling him about deals that are about to happen): " but all indications are Richards loves the area and wants to remain a Star for life."
This made my day. And do you think it's possible that Brad could go the Joe Thornton route and take a hometown discount at least for a couple years to stay with this team?

Yuppers but
Sharks could already sign Big Joe, it was just a matter of how much. The Stars really have no way to resign Richards, as far as I know. Big Joe signed to keep the team competitive, I think signing Richards is our only way to stay competitive.
One of the last Matt Niskanen supporters in Dallas....
Well...
Richards’ contract is for the rest of the season. If the team is sold in the next eight months, which is possible, then it probably won’t be an issue (if it still is, the Stars have worse problems than Richards’ contract).
If it`s me.....
I sit tight and wait it out. IF there no ownership by the Summe im gonna be pretty choked and the last thing on my mind will be loosing Richards for nothing.
If Richards really wants to remain a Star, he can make it happen.
He doesn’t have to be re-signed by the end of the season. Here’s to hoping that article has some credibility!
In the end all that matters is winning
If the Stars aren’t competitive, he’s not staying for a hometown discount. They’re going to have play beyond what is expected out of them for Richards to seriously consider staying.
I totally believe Brad would love to stay here,
but without ownership to lay out the path and their commitment I’m sure he would give that up to move to a contender whose intentions are clear. No way his agent lets him go short term … he is at his peak value and too many things can happen over the next 1.5 years to bring his value down.
