Well...
…when the Olympics roll around, I’m interested in that, because of Team USA.
Likewise, after the Stars were out of the running, I gained a brief interest in the AHL — since the Texas Stars were doing so well. If they hadn’t been, though, I doubt I would have cared at all.
Really, though, on a day-to-day basis, I don’t really care much about any other level of professional or high-level hockey. It’s not that I don’t like lower-level hockey or the young players or any of that — it’s just too much trouble to keep track of a bunch of different teams. The AHL is as large as the NHL this season, in player count, and I don’t even remember all the NHL players; there’s not a chance I’m going to basically double the number of stuff I have to keep track of, just so I can claim that I’m “hockey-aware”.
Agreed...
Living 10 min from CPC and having season seats to Texas, I follow the AHL more than I did living in the metroplex. However, guess I’m a bit of a homer for the Dallas Stars and their farm clubs, so while I follow Texas rather closely I couldn’t tell you much about other players in the AHL, ECHL, or CHL. It’s just too much to keep up with player-wise. I’ll check once in a while to see what teams are doing well and such, but not much after that. Don’t know how many of y’all check the AHL website, but it’s typically articles about teams in the northeast, because I’m sure it’s the same jackwagons that don’t think hockey belongs in the south.
