Two goalies have been starters in the last two SC final...
How is Fleury or Osgood not drafted while Niklas Backstrom is?
Get a SC proven goalie if ya can.
I would say
Grab a defenseman first, then when it swings around a few picks later to your 3rd round choice, grab a goaltender. Honestly in the NHL series, having an allstar goalie doesn’t help you as much as having good depth. So pick up a high caliber defenseman and then grab a starting goaltender.
We are going to have two picks close together...
Between the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

I’d say take Jonas Hiller as goalie because he’s pretty consistent. For defenseman, I don’t know, maybe Brian Rafalski?

The best picks left by GVT (puck prospectus metric)
1. Tomas Vokoun (3rd best goaltender overall)
2. Pekka Rinne (4th best goaltender overall)
3. Ryan Miller (5th best goaltender overall)
4. Patrick Marleau (7th best forward overall)
5. Marian Hossa (8th best forward overall)
6. David Krejci (11th best forward overall)
7. Jonas Hiller (8th best goaltender overall)
8. Patrick Elias (13th best forward overall)
9. Mark Streit (3rd best defenceman overall)
10. Brian Rafalski (4th best defenceman overall)
might I suggest picking Marian Hossa (if he is still available) and Pekka Rinne? Or if Hossa is taken pick Patrick Marleau. I think we should try to take atleast one “cheap” player with our next two picks.
If people are convinced that we need 1 stud player at each position with our first 3 picks then Mark Streit is definetly the way to go. One of the top two PP QB’s in the league with a nice 4.1 mill contract :)
Some more on Rinne
Basically we’re laughing if we get this guy our next pick. He makes just over 700k in salary, meaning we get one of the top goaltenders in the league last year for a bargain basement price. I mean we’re talking about someone who had a better save percentage last year then 6 out of the 9 goaltenders already selected, and played on a non playoff team – seems like a pretty easy choice to me.
Posted this on the last thread....
But why exactly did you pick up Clemmensen with the third rounder instead of a d-man like Gonchar, Markov, or as mentioned here, Rafalski?
I mean, I like the low cap hit, but I think he was taken a little too early. Probably could’ve gotten him in the 4th round. I’ll reserve final judgment until we see who is available to fill the defense when it comes to the next pick.
