Could Trevor Daley become a Winger ?
I have thought about this for the past couple of seasons. In my opinion Trevor Daley has the speed and grit to be one heck of a winger. He jumps up on the play so much as it is now why not try it and see what happens. It would open up a slot for another big defensive threat and add speed to the third or fourth line. I can't be the only Stars fan that has thought of this it seems too obvious.

If he was right-handed, I'd say it'd be worth a shot...
I’m sure it’s been thought of before, but you have to remember that there is value in a defenseman who has the ability to create plays off the rush. Not every defensemen can be big, stay at home guys and you need players like Daley.
Right now, his value to the Stars is on the blue line I think.

I agree with this. Getting the puck out of the zone and up the ice is one of the most important things a successful team needs to do and it doesn’t make much sense to take a good puck moving D and cut his minutes in half to play him in a checking role. Also, a lot of offensive D get their offensive skill from their ability to read the whole ice and know when to jump in; they lose that vision when they get pushed up to forward.

I’ve thought of the idea of Daley as a winger in the past as well, but over this past seaon I felt his defensive play was getting better and as the other two have mentioned, it’s so hard to find a good puck moving defenseman and the Stars have that in Daley, so while I like the idea of Daley’s speed and puck handling on a wing, he’s much more valuable to the Stars as a defenseman now.

No
He’s fleet-footed and can matriculate with the best of ‘em, bt he plays too soft to go into the corners with regularity or hold up the puck when the d-men converge on him. Plus his passing isn’t quite what I’d want from a winger.
He’d be passable, but he’d be mediocre. At D he’s pretty dang good.
But didn’t they do this with Robidas on PK’s a few years ago?
What's the rumpus?

He’d be better served as a defenseman, but also he’s a left shot, and we don’t need any help with scoring left wings, especially with Benn expected to possibly come to the NHL eventually.
